Yashica GSN Battery Cover Replacement

Hey guys!

I recently recieved a Yashica GSN as a gift from my girlfriend... it's a beautiful camera, though it's missing a battery cover. Anyone know where to get a replacement one without paying for a parts camera? Would making a little makeshift cover with a coin or some tin foil work as well?

You could always do an internet search on "Yashica Parts" and see what comes up. I'll be needing to get a couple of covers myself once I get into fixing a couple of Electros I have waiting their turn. But then they might just share a cover between the ones that are working.

At the auction site 'Electro battery cover'

Or contact Mark Hama (google him) who has parts for these cameras.

I have one GT that the battery cover is different than all my other yashica electro covers, (slightly larger) and of course it is corroded beyond saving...anyone else find different size battery covers?

Yes, oddly enough, in the earlier Electros (pre-G through GS/GT?) the battery covers (with the spanner holes) measure 20.9mm across overall and 19.8mm across the threads. In the GSN/GTN series (without the spanner holes) the covers measure 20.5mm overall and 19.5mm across the threads.

I don't know for sure that the change in size didn't occur at some point within a model (late GS/GT or early GSN/GTN), but I do know that my pre-G and my GT use the same size, larger, cover, but both my GSNs have the smaller cover.

I wonder why Yashica felt it necessary to make that tiny change.

Patrick, my offer of a GSN cover is still good. Sorry, Tfishmrt, I don't have a spare GS/GT cover.

nparsons13, just found one off a G series that fit perfectly, and it was still in great shape! Now to start the tear down and cleaning since I will be able to fully use it, it will just have a silver battery cover instead of a black one.

I've seen only chrome ones, but apparently some were black. See http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yashica-Elec...item33781a6122.
