Why should the EVF necessarily be setup differently than the LCD? While I can buy the argument that some users may wish to do this, absent a technical constraint, I can't fathom why Fuji would go to the trouble of allowing the EVF and LCD to be customized independently of each other but not allow them to be customized so they're identical. <shrugs>

If you don't want to see that stuff just hit disp button and use the standard 'clean' view.
This will remove the silent-mode and slow shutter-speed warnings, but not the manual focus "M" or the DoF scale. The other stuff is merely annoying, but the DoF scale is frustrating, because it prevents me from composing to the edge of the LCD by blocking the view of what's behind it. Frankly, it would be less annoying to me if it was in the middle of the screen instead of at the edge of it!

Seems like a pretty small thing to get in a tiff about.
Obviously, it depends upon your perspective. Unlike most Fuji owners, who buy these cameras for their unique viewfinder and most likely use the LCD only for playback, I use the LCD 95% of the time, so it's a big deal to me. Not a deal killer, clearly, but a big deal nonetheless...

Sometimes, Yes and sometimes, No ... it depends upon whether my composition was affected by my not being able to see what's behind the DoF scale. <shrugs>

Honestly, the location of and/or inability to turn off the DoF scale are pretty much my only substantive complaints with the X100 and X-Pro1, as I'm able to either ignore or work around every other issue I have with them.

I do very much appreciate their traditional form-factor and for what they are, I'm satisfied with the results I achieve with them.

Ummm... If you flip to standard viewing mode with the DISP button, there is no DOF scale on the screen. That will only be showing in the 'custom' mode.

Unless you're using MF - in which case I dunno - it sounds like you're shooting landscapes with it or something... Probably isn't the right camera for the job.

Yes, if you're using MF, it's present in both the standard and custom mode. At least on my camera, anyway...

FYI, my primary use for both of these cameras is snapshot and street photography; for my serious urban landscape work, I use a Contax 645 / Phase One P30+ outfit.

Alas, all this may now be moot, because I just tried turning on the camera to verify the above and I'm getting the "TURN OFF THE CAMERA AND TURN ON AGAIN" error message...
