M6 ttl rewind issue

Camera seems to have developed a fault in a way. Loads and shoots just fine but 2 rolls in a row now when I'm about half way through rewinding the rewind action stops dead. It can then only be rotated half a cycle back to a dead end aswell. Last roll it managed to work itself free and keep going. I was able to replicate the dead stop every few turns for a few minutes after before it went away and I loaded up again.

Couldn't get it to work free on this roll however and had to just remove the film manually. Afterwards I also managed to work the mechanism free after a minute of trying and it'll spin rotations but there is a definite notch feeling and faint click where it usually stops dead.

Any idea's or is it service time? What I don't understand is why it only seems to kick in half way through rewinding

Give sherry at golden touch a call. I believe it's something in the rewind knob that needs to be adjusted.

So you have heard of this before? Hoping its just a washer or something similar that could be replaced / adjusted.

Are you accidentally knocking the rewind lever out of the "R" position, or accidentally moving the wind lever (which will knock the rewind lever out of the "R" position)? If you do either, it will cause the camera to not allow you to rewind.

No, definitely not. From a quick look around the internets and close inspection it looks like it may be having loose washer issues under the crank. Strange that it winds on ok and only kicks in half way through rewind when most who have this issue seem to find it mid wind on of a roll

Seems quite likely unless the washers are fubar. Will get the crank off and have a look tomorrow. If needs be I'll give sherry a very quick international call!

Yes, that is about right. In my case, which exhibited exactly the same symptoms as you described, it was a loose top plate. I could actually jiggle the entire top plate by about half a mm. It took Leia Ginza just 10 minutes to fix it.

Top plate is tight and no movement. Sure i'll see later today and report back

Dammit. Rewind crank removed and under the regular 4 thin washers the metal screw washer was a bit loose so tightened it up as per this thread - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/foru...d.php?t=107289 and many others around the internet. The issue remained.

Took the washer completely off and could see another similar one inside underneath the top plate opening. This was also a bit loose. Hard to get in to it but tightened it up a bit. Issue still remains.

To confirm, happens with or without film but after it initially happened it went away, I shot another roll completely and it only kicked in half way through rewinding again. Never had an effect on film advancing. Now, even without film the rewind crank can only be rotated through 8/10 of a full rotation before it stops dead on either end. Inside forks turn with the crank. It can be worked free eventually and when it does rotate completely there is a very faint tick and a faint notch feeling on passing the point where the crank ended rotation when locked up.

Anyone have any other ideas? I imagine its not a complicated mechanism overall and hope a local repair agent can sort it out as I don't fancy having to send it overseas

Ok, doesn't look like any local repair agent can take care of a leica Anywhere recommended in the UK or Europe?

Local camera shop said they send their leica stuff (which is rare enough around here) to either leica germany directly or malcolm taylor in the uk. They did say that malcolm taylors turnaround time can wildly vary from weeks to months. Any any experience with him or any other recommendations?
