And the serial number is each year from 1954 to 1994, I think 100 for each year, making it a large limited edition.

Head Bartender says 40 units per year. http://www.cameraquest.com/leicam6j.htm

Still, it's a fine looking camera.

What a gorgeous camera.

Functionally, is it any different than a .85 MP? Viewfinder, framelines, etc?

No 75mm lines.

It is one of the niciest special edition Leicas, as smooth as an M3.
The finder will occasionnally flare but Leica can solve this problem installing an upgrade, i did it to mine and it is perfect, after.
I use it a lot and the real skin grip is a pleasure.

How do I miss threads like this?

And where is the OP almost a year later? I would like to know how he/she is enjoying the M6J....

I heard that Leica will convert an M3 to an M6J - like specs for 600 Euros or something like that. Anyone tried this?

I went to the LHSA convention in Louisville KY in 1996 and they gave at least one (maybe more) of these sets away in a raffle they had. I had bought about 15 tickets but was not the lucky one. However I did meet Stan Tamarkin, Sherry Krauter, and Tom A

Hey there Dave!

You mean the finder right? 0.92 to 0.85? Not metering, because we both know how much that fun costs!

I never did my FrankenLeica M3/6 Classic, would cost now at least $3,500 to do so.

I've really been debating back and forth in my head weither or not to leave my 0.85 BP M6 TTL LHSA go, while I think powers well beyond my control are suggesting that I keep it, while it is really one of the most beautiful special edition Leica's like the M6-J is.

I can remember seeing these on the shelves in Nuremberg, Germany when I was living there, back in 1994, they were like over $3,500 then and were always quickly sold out.....

Wonder how the OP is doing with the camera, so few are actually used it's kool that some people take the collector camera out of the box for good and use it!

Tom

Hello, Tom, how are things going?

Wow, if I had that LHSA, I would be in heaven, really.

I am like you, it is nice to have a beautiful camera, especially limited editions, but it is really cool to see them actually used!

So, I am now adding a Leica MR4 meter and a hand grip to the M3...looking really nice and handles much better!

Just needs a neat lens, though. Paperweights only go so far.

Yeah, I'm really leaning towards keeping the LHSA, I haven't found anyone worthy of the honor of bestowing the first "patina" on it, so I think I'm going to put the Black Paint Voightlander Nokton f1.5/50mm ASPH back on it and go shooting for REAL this time!!!!!

Take care,

Tom
