Much as I share your pride, albeit vicariously, this further supports my argument that it is in fact a lifestyle choice, though in this case, a choice made as much (or more) by your parents as by yourself. At my old school, we had the compulsory 'daily corporate act of worship' (try explaining THAT to an American!). Jews (though not atheists) could opt out, and meet in the library instead, but not all chose to do so. With your name, you must surely be familiar with the
lares et penates and the customary sacrifices.
