Jupiter Lenses on a Bessa RM3

I'm pretty excited about the Bessa Rangefinder series and am looking at picking up a RM3.

I've just bagged a Jupiter 8 lens and to keep costs down I was thinking of using it on the RM3 (with an adapter of course) Is this a good idea or will there be issues and consequences to using it?

first of all, R3M
Second of all - no issues, but you need to have a good adapter. CV adapters are pretty decent, but they cost more than a Jupiter-8.

I have a 1962 vintage Jupiter 8 that I occasionally use on my R3A with a CV adapter. The lens works well and gives a vintage look to my photos. I picked up the lens with a functional Zorki 4 of the same vintage for $16.

Hey guys many thanks for taking the time to post, much appreciated. Wow $16 for a J8 and a Zorki 4, fantastic! I paid $25 for my J8 and I thought that was a bargain!!!

Looking forward to getting my RM3!

$25 is still a great price, J8's have gone up over the past few years along with all of the Russian gear. I happily used a J8 with a Bessa R for quite a while with no close focus issues that I noticed. They do have a nice vintage feel to them I think.

Nice combo, good luck with it.

Hi there,

Its actually called R3M, just for technicality.

I have a R3A myself, and I got a 1958 Jupiter 8 with the CV adapter. Reason why I got one actually was that Im new to rangefinders and I didnt have enough money to shell out for something decent.

I did a CLA in my room in about 3 hours (half of that was figuring out how the lens worked) and the lens is actually very sharp!

Love the camera, love the lens.

My apologies R3M, with all of the different camera names and numbers I've discovered on this forum over the last few weeks my head's spinning!

Your R3A looks like a beauty, I'm still hunting round to find the best (cheapest) bessa - I will succeed!

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to post.
