Roger Hicks -- Author of The Rangefinder Book

Roger Hicks is a well known photographic writer, author of The Rangefinder Book, over three dozen other photographic books, and a frequent contributor to Shutterbug and Amateur Photographer. Unusually in today's photographic world, most of his camera reviews are film cameras, especially rangefinders. See www.rogerandfrances.com for further background (Frances is his wife Frances Schultz, acknowledged darkroom addict and fellow Shutterbug contributor) .

The Ultimate Hot Water Bottle

Well, it's not a bottle, and it doesn't contain water, but it fulfills the same purpose, better. It won't scald you when it's hot; it isn't clammy and nasty when it's cold; and it can't leak and give you wet sheets. And it's cheap and easy. It can even be used to keep you warm in a cold studio or (albeit fairly briefly) when you're taking pictures. Behold: THE WHEATIE.

Cheers,

R.

And, at a pinch, it'll feed you.

Dear John,

Probably not, I fear; they'd be too warm to begin with, they'd cool too fast, and you'd need to waterproof them.

Cheers,

R.
