Look on your laptop on the Dock. You'll see the Blue A icon. That's the app store. There you will find all the apps for your laptop ...OSX.
The app store on the iPad and phone will have the Mobile iOs apps

BTW, for free the Photos app is pretty good. It's on your computer and integrates all your devices photos.

I really like the Photos.app. I am rather tired of photoshop, in a sense it offers too much. The Photos.app is closer to using slide film, IMO. I concentrate more on the images, less on Photo manipulation.

Just me of course, but when I was seriously showing in a gallery I did NOTHING to my photos, the master printers just made inter-negatives, and matched my slides.

I never tried "saving" photos. If they were too orange, they got printed too orange.

By the way Frank, "Affinity" is a great photoshop alternative, powerful and cheap.

Thanks guys! Yes, the iOS X apps were right in front of my eyes! Duh.
I found Fotor photo editor. That should do it.

The big deal with OS-X and iOS right now is continuity ... all (or most of) your data is replicated/available across all Apple devices. Some people rail against the Apple ecosystem, but I don't care -- it is incredibly useful and seamless. I enter a note, photo, whatever on one device and it is available on all the others.

I've got to agree Earl. One pays a premium, but it just all works together. it's perfect for someone like me with a low computer IQ. For those that are computer competent, those who can fix troubles with drivers, etcetera, I can see that a PC would make more sense. Great that we have this choice/option.

Today my macbook got quite hot as it was busy synching with my iPhone and iPad. I also got that spinning ball of death for a while when I loaded the Fuji auto sync with PC app, but it's okay now.

I like the way the keys are back-lit.

Yeah, the beach ball appears at times, but it almost always subsides and seems to never be a harbinger of death. Unlike the blue screen.

I have an iMac at home and an 11" Air for work. Everything is on cloud storage - Onedrive - so both computers are identical to use.

No need for big bulky external drives nowadays

In a home network with large storage needs - music, video, images, etc., local storage is required. Cloud security and availability are other considerations.

I wonder if Aperture can be loaded on more than two computers, similar to PSE? Supposedly you can't, but now I'm wondering if it can be loaded and used, and just not registered?

How would the CD disk know how many computers the program has been loaded to? Maybe there's a writeable section on it?

I suppose so - I tend to delete video after watching and probably half my HDD of the iMac is music but on the laptop I use iTunes Match to free up the disk. Quite handy but bit annoying the artwork doesn't always sync!!!

Aperture does not authenticate, as far as I know, no Apple programs do. They are all so cheap, users just buy them.

There is a separate OS X App store. If it is not in your Dock, it will be in the Applications Folder. OS X Apps in the App store are certified by Apple to be free of malware and relatively secure in general. You can also purchase Apps outside of the App store. Vuescan is not in the App store.

Pixelmator is an excellent alternate to Adobe's products. Pixelmator costs $30 and offers a free 30 day trial period. In my view is the least expensive way to render raw files on OS X. Adobe products use Adobe Camera Raw while Pixelmater uses the built-in Apple raw rendering engine. There certainly are free Apps as well but they are inconvenient to install or use, or they are very limited in scope. I haven't investigated the free options for a long time though.

Thanks Willie, and you RFF folk! Lots to learn. I'm sure I'll have more questions so check back in frequently.

When I delete a photo from one device, it often says that it will be removed from my other devices. will it also be removed from my iCloud backup?

Hi Frank

On the Phone and Pad...
The images move to the "recently deleted" folder. After 4 weeks they are deleted for good.
Up until then you can recall them.

Frank,

Syncing with iCloud does come with the disadvantage of delete-on-one-device means deleting on all devices.

For this reason I only use the Photos app for sharing images. You can share Photos Albums with anyone. They can be viewed as a web page on Android or Windows platforms.

Correction: I do use Photos with my iPhone camera occasionally. But I import keeper iPhone photos into another App (in my case LR).

This generally only a worry if one is keeping photos of one's girlfriend on an iPhone one's wife has access to.

Photos are only being actually stored in the cloud, unless one has a phone with a large memory, in my case I only have 16GB.

I only have the one girlfriend, which is in itself amazing considering how grumpy I am. I could not handle two, nor have any offers been made.

I only import pictures into Photos that i want to share. I transfer all my original files into a folder that only stores originals. I am also starting to organize by camera - folders for Fuji, Olympus, etc.

I downloaded the OneNote app for free, and I bought the Pages app, both for word processing. OneNote icon is in the Dock while Pages is accessed through LaunchPad. How do I change/reverse that?

Edit: got it

Cool, thanks photomoof!

Last year I bought a (Kijiji) seagate wireless 1TB external hard drive in my quest for storage and archiving for my iPad. It didn't look like I could get it to work so I put it on a shelf until yesterday when I thought I'd give it a try on my mba.

Using the usb cable, I was able to make it work. Now I just need a CD writer and I'll be all set. (I mentioned that I did have a CD writer, but the 2 usb plugs are too close together to reach to either side of the mba.)

I'm pretty much done now.

Okay, now what?

These incessant alerts started popping up while I was on the couch tuner site looking for a tv show. I've trying restarting and shutdown, but it just opens with the same window. I've also tried force quit, but that didn't work. I thought OS X was immune to viruses.

So, how would you proceed?

Okay, I'm good. Last night I was trying to close the windows as soon as they popped up and they just popped up faster and multiplied. This morning, I calmly clicked off the boxes and eventually I got back to the couch tuner site and closed it. Everything seems fine now. Guess I won't be going there again.

That's not a virus, it's just garbage spam scripts on a crappy website. Your computer is fine. I recommend installing the free ghostery extension for safari:

https://www.ghostery.com

It suppresses malicious scripts, and you can allow it to pass through useful ones, or advertising that you actually want to see.
