I know rollei also made a 40mm lens for their Rollei RF, does anybody have info about that lens? I never found one selling so I guess it should be a nice piece of glass, I mean if the camera ends on the market but the lens does not...

While waiting for parts to get my CL up and running, I took a few shots with the Leica 40 on my Olympus em5 with Fotodiox adapter.

M3, 2/40 Summicron-c, FP4+, HC110 "H"

One of the best bang-for-your-buck Leica lenses - a wonderful little performer. Here's a selection of shots with it on film on my blog by clicking here.

I'm glad to see the 40mm Rokkor included here. Has anyone done a direct side by side comparison of it with the 40 Summicron? It would be nice to see that comparison posted here!

I have one for sale... the focus is not quite on with my M8. The split image goes just past infinity. It throws off focus by about an inch at closer distances but otherwise glass is clean, mechanics perfect. Once again, the focus issue is only a matter of compatibility with my particular M8. I've seen it focus perfectly on other bodies, and optics are perfect.

I just tested on an M4, M9, and CL. It focuses perfectly on the M4 and CL. Too bad it's not perfect on my M8.

PM me if interested. $500

I told you to adjust your M8 RF but you won't listen
I'd like it but that price + shipping + customs = meh

I sold it years ago for a 35/50 kit, but ended up purchasing it again. For me it's the perfect compromise between the focal lens.

Thinking of getting this lens.

Do any of you use a UV filter on it to protect the front element, and if so, are they easy to get hold of these days?
I understand you can 'drop a filter' into the rubber lens hood, but I don't really want to use that lens hood.

I use a cheap adapter ring 5.5 > standard thread bought on ebay.
But it adds thickness, so you can't use ring+filter+hood because the combo vignettes: you have to choose between filter and shade.

Of course it's a great lens, Kevin - it was the one that used to belong to you! But yes, one of the really great Leica lenses at a truly affordable price. I have taken some great shots with it.

Certainly just as good as some 35mm Summicrons out there t more than half the price. I usually pair it with my M3 and use the 50 framelines; one day I might see if I can find a good Leica CL. Anyone who gets a chance of buying this lens should do so without any hesitation.

Thank You guys!

I'm always buying and selling, trying this, tryint that... For me MP BP, 21 superelmar, 35 and 50 lux asph are the best, but at the end found myself going back to the small 40, why? I feel much MUCH more comfortable using "cheap" equipment. So M6 and 40 is a killer combo. I should stick with it forever and maybe add 25 voigtlander.

Again, thank You

These pictures have been posted elsewhere on the site, but illustrate how versatile the Leica CL with the 40mm "C" was. I used this as my sole camera/lens from 1976 until 1995.
