Lightbulb What About a RFF «Owners’ Area»?

By that I mean something basically akin to https://owners.leica-camera.com (where you can «[r]egister your Leica products here and organize all product information in a single place.»).

Like in the case of Leica’s «Owners’ Area», there should be a strictly individually accessible section, but additionally, for statistical purposes, it would be very useful if the entire database would be accessible for basically all members — in this case, of course, the particular owner completely anonymised: instead of the real name or forum moniker, some sort of «owner’s age range», and not too detailed geographical data (county/district, but not the exact village), should be enough for aforementioned statistical purposes I suppose.

Being a user here means I'm not just interested in photography but I'm also a gear head to some extent. That's why I support your idea. Let us add a flag in the configuration if a member would like to show its own section to the other members or not.

There is something along this line in the RFF Gallery... see the 4th menu from the left on the Gallery menubar, called "My Menu". You can populate this menu with your own gear, from master lists.

Mark Twain:
"There are lies, there are blatant lies and there are statistics"

What's the purpose of statistics using uncontrolled data?
In the Leica user area, you register a specific lens or body with it's unique serial #. This gets verified, there can only be one and it needs to exist. How could some sort of verification work in such a forum like RFF?
What's a statistic based on our little RFF refuge worth in today's market place when billions of photos are taken with cell phones?
I don't see any use for this, just my grumpy 2 cents

Get out there, take photos and share them in the gallery.
There had been times when the weekly gallery postings ran up to 30 pages. Now it's down to 10...

Well, the context of Mark Twain’s famous quote was, that he was criticising statistics that were intended to «prove» that there’s «no poverty» in the United States, or that «poverty is solely the result of individual failure, laziness, etc.»

re purpose: I presume our possible statistics could focus on questions like: are there, (and if yes: why?), e.g. accumulations of certain items on certain places, even though at the time the items in question were new, import wasn't possible?, etc. etc.

re uncontrolled data: I cannot see any danger that there could be deliberately false data regarding possession of camera gear since I’m inclined to suppose that 99.99% of our forum members aren’t swaggerers.

On the contrary, I’m much more grumpy than most others here
