I joined the Ricoh GR party. I bought a Ricoh GR10. I simply cannot afford a G1, GR1v, or GR1s. The GR10 is simply a point and shoot. Just compose and let the camera do all the work. It was quite nice to not think about exposure, depth of field, etc. It is a sweet little camera. The lens is quite amazing. I love the contrast produced and the soft tones.

I recently sold my GX100. I'm no fan of small sensors. But the Ricoh lenses are sweet. After seeing your shots, I definitely want one. Good stuff.

Great thread! The GR1x series of cameras is really amazing.

Thankfully Ricoh's GR1-line never received any major attention from online proselytizers (Ken Rockwell, etc.) or the prices on these little gems would be in the stratosphere (see Contax T3, for instance).

The lens design on the GR1x is just fantastic. As good as anything from Leica, I would say.

Here's a couple contributions:

Ricoh GR1S, Kodak BW400CN

.

Bobby, fstop: You contribution shows how universal the 28mm focal length is.

Thanks for starting this thread and inspiring me to finally get my own GR1. It's been on my wish list for a long time. Yesterday I got lucky and found one for sale in a local ad. Picked it up today - mint condition, original box and manual for a measly $200. Yes. Can't wait to develop my first roll of Delta 100. I'll post my contribution when I have some images from it.

There are some really great pictures in this thread. I'm looking to buy a GR1v and have it be the sidekick to my MP, but these little guys seem to be pretty hard to find. There are a few on ebay, but the prices are up there (~$700 for a nice one). Is this the going rate or just another case of ebay price gouging?

I was discussing this with another member on RFF recently. It's a great camera and I will admit to lusting after one myself but it seems this camera has a bit of a cult following which could be driving up the price, also considering it is not in production any more so scarcity now plays a big part in determining the street price. Check out all the Youtube Videos of Daido Moriyama (The Stray Dog) using one and you might get an impression of why the price is climbing and why, especially in Japan, this camera is at the top of the street P&S list. Not saying it's any better than buying a brand new fuji Klasse 'w' for less money but if there is a top spot then something has to fill it.

You're right. The GR series does seem to have a cult following. There are plenty of nice P&S cameras that can be had for less, but there is something about the GR1 that I am attracted to... not $700 attracted, but attracted.

Yeah, I even bought the Stray Dog of Tokyo DVD, and I have the book. Very inspiring and also makes it very tempting to get a GR1 of some description. Just seeing Moriyama wander the streets and take photos with a Ricoh makes my wallet want to hide. I counter this by watching clips of HCB strolling about with his Leica, a well mannered man in a suit quietly taking photos.

They are out there if you're patient. I got a never used in the wrapper GR1 a few weeks ago for £130. Just running a film through it now. It did help that the person had listed it as a Ricoh FR1 (typo) but obviously others saw the auction as for a very long time I thought I might get it for £20!

Thanks, I got it for $340, which I think is a good price for me, I“ve seen them go for around $500 in mint condition like this one. Love the camera, on my second roll now

That's a good price. Don't the silver ones usually go for a little bit less since the shell is made differently (aluminum vs magnesium)? Still, $340 for essentially a brand new camera... that was a good deal.

The last frame on (probably) the last roll ever to pass through my GR-1. The camera went to sleep and never awoke, and I've so far been unable to find anyone who can service it. Unfortunately, this appears to be a common theme. Sigh.

20111001-scan1125 by Semilog, on Flickr

University Bridge, Seattle. Neopan 1600, XTOL 1+1. The ragged right edge is due to removing the film from the camera in room light (exposed frames are protected by being wound into the film cassette).
