Fixing that old glass

If it sounds too good. .. ... yeah but has anyone ever tried to use a "lens repair coating" to fix small scratches and old cleaning marks that are sometimes found on the vintage lenses? Lots of the lenses have missing coatings is it posiable to recoat the glass? Sure would be nice to "fix up" the old glass.

I think I have read somewhere that the lens repair stuff you buy for eye glasses is no good for camera lenses. There are several options. If there is a deep scratch, it can be carefully filled with india ink. Focal Point in Colorado can polish lenses and recoat them but it does cost a bit. John Van Stelton of Focal Point just fixed a Nikkor 50mm f2.0 in ltm for me. It had fungus and he cleaned and polished it and it looks and works wonderfully. Joe

well well, the only problem is that the coating is so thin that except if you coat in absolute void, anything you might have between the coating and the lens either get trapped in the coating, either simply prevents you from coating the lens at all. That's why it's a process that took such a long time to actually invent!
