Refurbed epson v500?

I must admit to putting off getting a scanner for too long now. what i'm seeing in my price range is a refurbed v500 from epson for $99, free shipping orthe v500 shipped to walmart for 148. Not sure if it's a refurb. Question is would you trust the refurb form epson given any problem means shipping it back versus running it back to wallyword for them to handle the return. For those that would suggest getting the v700 or v750 show one at the price of the 500. The main reason I'm considering the epson direct refurb is it would be nice to have the extra 50 to spend on film but I'm not willing to give up reliability. Thanks guys.

I'd go with the Epson $99 one, if any company knows if it's OK to sell or not, it's them. Presumably it still has a warranty? Sometimes I think a refurb by the manufacturer will have been repaired and then tested more than a new one, so may even be *more* reliable than a standard new one.

Make sure that the unit arrives with EVERYTHING it had when new. One trip back to Epson on your nickel will eat up most of your $50 savings.
I would be on the lookout for a low mileage, pristine, COMPLETE Epson 4990. They even come up on the Epson Refurb page and last for a few minutes before they are gone. The 4990 is the next best thing to a 700 for a lot less money.

I got the $99 Epson refurb and it was "new in box" with everything. Includes full warranty. Can't lose.

That is a deal. They must run overstock inventory through the REFURB program. Good to know.

I have bought 7 or 8 Epson refurbished printers and 2 refurbished scanners over the last 10 years. I would not consider buying new as the refurbs seem the same but cost less.

Epson immediately ships you a replacement if you have a problem with any Epson product, including refurbished. It usually arrives the next day. Then you return your defective unit in that box at Epson's cost.

I do believe that most of the Epson refurbished products were initially swapped out because of user error and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the original product.
