Many thanks John. It is possibly the most natural portrait of my Parents that I've taken. I don't photograph them enough and realise that I ought to do it more. I love the film like qualities of the original MM in the shot also.

Wow! That's quite a landscape, Jeremy. And nicely composed and processed.

Yes, that is amazing landscape Jeremy. I've been to Lethbridge to the southwest and was struck by the terrain there but this takes it up a notch and you've captured it nicely here.

And Tom that is a haunting "strangely wonderful" image. I love the way the woman and dog work off one another. Usually, I'd think of tension and release between the two characters, but here I'm at a loss to label them!

I agree. The best photographs defy description, I think, and this is one of them. I find the nightgown, which appears to be inside out, strangely compelling. And the dog's raised paw. And that face in darkness raises the picture to another level. This strikes me as one of those rare instances when everything aligns to offer something special.

Another nice one, Tom. What's your thinking on the aspect ratio? Look likes about 8 x 10? Are you deliberately cropping to a specific ratio, or cropping to content?

Thanks John. I generally prefer 4 x 6 but I am cropping to content on a number of these.

The Cuba shots are from a Steve Anchell Workshop last week. At the end of each day we would review our images on a projector he brought with him, and he would offer editing suggestions in Lightroom. He encouraged cropping to content in a number of cases, so I have been trying that.

BTW, it was a great workshop. He buried us deep into Havana and definitely got me out of my comfort zone. The Top 10 Things to do in Havana? We did none of them, and it was great!

I was going to mention the nightgown as well but what struck me aside from the way the two pieces or fabric so casually adorned the photo were the diagonal line that they together create in balancing the strong horizontals of the window and masonry. The Anchell workshop was obviously a wonderful opportunity.

I'm not too sure about this one -- actually I'm not too sure how any of the shots i've posted recently are, as I've been working off my laptop for the past two weeks in hotel rooms and, every time I do, the pictures usually come out dark. As a result, when I get home I have to redo most of them.

Not too sure how to resolve the background here, as it was very cloudy and flat. But the pilings in the front were almost black, particularly as a result of the backlight. It's not really a thrilling image either, but it caught my eye as I drove by it today.

Hi Vince,
I'm in the same boat. Maybe you just let it go and move on. Perhaps a viewpoint with just a few of the wooden pilings would have worked better. As for the background ... have you used a graduated filter function in post processing? It might not save the day but when you have such a strong back light effect it can work nicely.

Agree with Klaus about Allen's abstract above.

This is with a pretty clean 1950 f3.5 50 Elmar:

Vince, I like your pilings photo, but agree on its flatness. I'd likely try raising the upper tones to have more contrast with the pilings. I don't work photos on a notebook at all, but I thought Macs were pretty good for that. For some photographers, I've read, that's their main computer. FWIW, your biker pic has a very high structure look to me, something I don't usually see from you.

I continue to be super impressed with the work in this thread.

Personally, I'm in the creative doldrums at the moment. But here's one I like from my ongoing abstractions series.
