The Unobtrusive Mamiya

This is a second roll from the Mamiya NC1000 I told you guys about in this thread:
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/foru...d.php?t=119497

This camera challenges even rangefinders, it's not loud, it's small (in and out of my bag quickly), really unobtrusive.

To test this, my daughter and I went to the mall and we went into one of my favorite stores, not because I like to shop there, but because this one always have neat things that looked vintage that are arranged in an attractive manner. Very... humanistic.

I have been challenged to not shoot within the mall, although teenagers or moms with iphones are always welcome to take pictures of anything in there

but I digress...

All the above with 35mm *wide open* and handheld.

And back at the house, finishing the roll with the 200mm which again, really surprised me with its sharpness and smooth blurs.

Did I mention that this camera is a blast to use?

Nice images. What film were you shooting?

The NC1000 looks like a very nice small SLR. It reminds me of my Canon AE-1P that I gave away years ago. The AE-1P was also pretty small and unobtrusive, for an SLR.

The NC1000 was also branded for Sears

I have a friend who has the Sears model. Probably one of the better Sears offerings in photography. Most who recall Sears cameras probably know Sears used a few different variations of Konica.

The Mamiya 35mm line ended shortly after Mamiya turned marketing over to a marketing company called Osawa. Osawa had some excellent lenses and started putting some of their lenses on the Mamiya Ze thru ZM. I've used the ZE, ZE-X and ZM. The mamiya/sekor lenses were superb, and the Osawas were also very good but mostly zooms. The last Mamiya 35mm cameras were actually smaller than Olympus OM's and lighter. Quartz timed Copal vertical shutter. Great cameras. I still have a couple of Osawa lenses in Olympus mount.

I seem to recall the mount for the NC1000 being different than the ZE, etc.

Osawa went bankrupt killing the Mamiya 35mm line, and Mamiya only made MF cameras forward from that event.

There is a quite active web site for Mamiya 35mm followers.

There were many interesting 35mm cameras from mamiya. The site above has a collectors forum. The NC1000 is covered, and also the Tower that I believe Mamiya made also for Sears

The film is Ilford XP2.

This camera is almost the exact dimension as an Olympus OM, and lighter.

The Pentax MX is smaller still, but hey...

* We pick it, they bag it, fresh blueberry supply for a few weeks

* Are we clear on this?

* A group of bike tourer

Here again, the 200mm lens strutting its sharpness:

* This is what I'll show when people ask "when will Texas have a cool Summer?"

Thanks for sharing your experience shooting in malls. I have been stopped at least a few times; claiming i cannot take pictures in "private" property.

I know you are not asking me particularly the blueberry question, but in Oregon we go up on the sides of Mount Hood and pick blueberries. Of course, we have to compete in the patches with the black and brown bears who frequent these patches and apparently love the berries.

I just make sure I have a rather largish camera hanging around my neck on a sturdy strap, as a defensive weapon. A bear will turn tail and run if you hit them square on the nose with such a camera. Don't miss. And don't stick around to watch the "cute little bears" tagging along with the adults.

Also, don't get between a male bear who is trying to kill the cubs of a momma bear. You simply don't want to be there. It's ugly and usually the momma wins. But then, she's so pissed, you're next!

Ever wonder why fresh picked blueberries are so expensive. To recoup for the scars and gashes.
