My humble tribute to Tom A

After learning of Tom A’s death, I decided to load my Nikon S2 the next day with some Tri-X, and mounting the W-Nikkor 3.5cm/1:2.5, along with a Nikon Varifocal finder. I hit the streets of downtown Roanoke, Va for a bit of a walking photo tour, as Tom might have in his beloved Kitsilano. I especially wanted to get a photo of a sidewalk sign, like the ones he would comment on in his witty way.

It was only 24F/-4.5C, so it was a short walk, but I’m glad Tom had talked me into getting the S2, because it was easy to use with gloves on, and handled the cold very well. The 35/2.5 was easy to set the aperture on with a hood attached, using it to turn the control ring.

Like his “test root”, I also have a “test house” that I’ve taken many photos of over the course of the last few years so I could compare different camera/lens/film combinations, so I included a shot of that too.

Rest in peace, Tom.

Maybe everyone could post a photo of their own test subject.

You see a moon in the picture? I see. And what else do you see in the picture? (Just teasing; but I really couldn't see a moon, and my wife couldn't, either.)

Yes, rest in peace, Tom.

this is my most frequent test subject. he's always around when I'm flexing new gear, and he's always posing.

It's that little smudge just above the house, and under the arch of the tree branch.
