Vulcanite Replacement???

The vulcanite on my M2 is finally beyond repair. There are so many places missing that I want to just recover it.

I've got an M6 TTL and the leatherette covering on that doesn't feel nearly as nice in my hands as the vulcanite on my M3 or the vulcanite that used to grace my M2. The M6 TTL leatherette feels almost slippery in the hand, compared to the vulcanite, which gives me the feel of a more solid grip.

Does anyone have recommendations for a Leica M covering that will give about the same look, but more importantly the same feel, as the vulcanite that the camera originally came with?

Thanks for any and all input.

Best,
-Tim

CRR Luton in England is supposed to have real vulcanite but it is expensive. I just put Griptac on a IIIc a year ago and it's wonderful. If the camera is a user I would say go for Griptac. If it's important to you, get the vulcanite. Good Luck. Joe

Aki asahi makes fantastic quality coverings.

The 4034 covering is similar to modern vulcanite that comes on the M9 etc.
The 4008 is a finer grain, and is also very nice.

I ended up going with the Aki-Asahi leatherette and I'm very happy with how it turned out. The new covering is close enough in look to the old vulcanite that I am leaving the vulcanite on the back camera door (as it was in good shape).

It's also quite a bit more "grippy" than the Leica leatherette on my M6 TTL.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

Best,
-Tim

I recently purchased a new skin for a Leica IIIc through Aki-Asahi and I'm also quite pleased with it. Very swift service too.
