Olympus Pen-F/FT Possibilities

I used to worry about the half-frame image quality not being up
to scratch despite the excellent lenses. Well, I forgot the kind
fella who suggested that rather than seeing the half-frame as a
single image, how about thinking about it as a series of
images eg a sequence of events, different perspectives or simply
related images formed in a Triptych.

So.. here are some images, all captured on the Pen-Ft and 40/1.4. Film is Arista Premium 400 (Tri-x 400)

My first ever roll I developed and scanned...Tmax 3200 in rodinal.

Grain galore...I do like it though!

Looks good to me, too! The grain adds a nice quality to the images.

Wow! I've always wanted to see the results from TMax 3200 used in a half frame camera.

I had a roll of 36 (72) developed as standard 36x24. Here are a few of the results. Thanks again to Ray for the conceptual lead on treating 1/2 frame as an opportunity for image-juxtaposition.

These are all great images, I really need to grab myself a Pen F /FT at one point. Recently I went after some EE's on the 'bay' but I was hoping to get them for a steal so my wallet wasn't really in it.

Maybe I'll pick one up in 2013!

I've had a Pen FT for years but never used it much. Certainly the prettiest camera I have. Time to take it for a spin. Here's an old shot - two of my cousins:

Some years ago I was part of a discussion at Cosina in regards to something new or different. One of the subjects was the possibility of a 1/2 frame Bessa, a Bessa 72. They promptly produced a couple of proto-types and I got one! It is built on the R4M body, finder/frame lines are "flipped" 90 degrees and covers 21/25/28/35 and 50mm. Film counter goes to 76-78 frames.
This is with the Color Skopar 28mm f3.5 on ORWO UN 54 movie stock, developed in Td 201 two bath developer.
Most likely the Bessa 72 will remain and idea (a good one) and the handful of prototypes. Spending money on a new film camera in todays market is probably not feasible - though with prices of PenF's going up, who knows?

Glad to see those shots, Tom. And a great story about the Bessa 72! The sharpness of that modern CV lens is clear beside the FT portraits. Although I'm doing no developing/scanning, I'm pleased with how well the Pen 40 1.4 and 25 2.8 can take a lot of slider-pushing in Lightroom, particularly in exposure, contrast, and clarity.

Really great photos here.
The sequence thing so readily available even on the original viewfinder Pen models.
i became very much addicted to the vertical format..Perfect for magazine covers.
Sadly my forays with The Olympus Pen FT, F, Fv all ended in disaster as the then new cameras all developed a shutter problem, that could not be fixed.
You are the lucky ones where the faulty ones are long weeded out.
Buying a used one? Look for one well used! The same as FSU cameras..
i love the half frame which really lives on in digital APS format, but now horizontal.

Great frame, Erik. The quality is superb.

On a different note, I must say I don't really get the dyptich (or triptych or any other tych) concept. A good photo, in my opinion, is self-contained. Add more and they make up a documentary series. The dyptich, on the other hand, loses power because of the dividing line between frames, or because the juxtaposition of two ideas seems to weaken its overall power. A+B is supposed to add up to C. But in this case, it often adds up to zero.
