Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

Leica M9 and infrared?

Do any of you use your M9 for infrared shooting? I know it has an IR cut filter in it but I have heard it is weak (though not as weak as the M8). I'd love to see some of your images if you have them.

Don't bother - that is the one area where the M8(.2) out performs the M9....

yes I have used IR on the M9; just put on the R72 (infrared) filter, set the mode to B+W, and you may have to do some exposure compensation. Works best in bright sunlight as the filter is almost opaque.

Irwin Puts has published results that demonstrate the M9's IR sensitivity. His information may help you decide.
