No, the tax disappeared after I specified USA as destination - I think that is shipping.

I didn't realize I could select English, I will try that again - Thanks!

yup, shipping is pretty brutal. Unless a bunch of people in a country split it.

Why don`t you guys just use RPX-100 and RPX -400 ?? They are both great films, both available in 135-36, bulk 35mm and also 120 spools. If you have to look for a slide 35mm B&W film, there are the syntheric base films from AGFA Belgium, that Maco sells. 80 S is just unbelieveable as slide film... I think Silvermax is only "special" as Scala clone. Not very impressed as ordinary negative film, most of the images seen are actually very flat and no "punch"...

I haven't used the stuff yet, but I bought a couple of rolls to try and it clearly says "Made by AGFA, Belgium" on each cassette. It is one of their extended red sensitivity aero-films, on a polyester base.

Dear Valued Freestyle Customer,

We have just returned from Cologne, Germany where we attended the world's premiere photographic imaging fair, Photokina 2012. Not only did we view some of the photographic industry's newest innovations but we also found it to be a great opportunity to meet all of our current and future manufacturing partners and to reiterate the importance of traditional technologies along with the new.

Here are some highlights of the show to let you know about some new products and exciting updates.

Unfortunately, Fotokemika has officially stopped production of all Efke film and Emaks and Varycon papers due to failed machinery. We are currently in research and development with Foma to continue production of our Arista Silver Artist Series papers utilizing Fomabrom and Fomatone emulsions on 100% cotton fine art paper base. But until then, we have the original Fotokemika produced paper coated with Fotokemika Varycon variable contrast black and white emulsion available in limited sizes and quantities in BFK Rives Grey, BFK Rives Cream and Platine White.

As for new products, Jobo processors are returning to the United States market and Freestyle is the exclusive distribution partner! Jobo accessories will now be more readily available such as all primary Jobo processing reels, tanks, bottles and most replacement parts except for the circuit boards for older processors. The new processor is called the CPP-3, an updated version of the Jobo CPP-2, with a better circuit board and improved performance features. The CPP-3 will accept all original Jobo accessories. Please contact me if you have an interest in this new processor, as it will help us determine our initial order. It should be available to ship to customers in the United States early 2013.

As we announced in our last newsletter, Freestyle is now the exclusive North American distributor for Tetenal Chemical products which are a perfect match for use with Jobo processors. We sold out of many items on our initial order and have placed a major reorder for both color and black and white chemicals. Tetenal is very excited that so many of you enjoy their products.

Canson and Hahnemuhle have both announced the future availability of some of their most popular digital inkjet papers with 4 deckle edges. This has been a feature customers have been asking for and both companies have spent quite of bit of research and development to make it available. This will finally bring the sterile world of digital printing in to the world of handmade printmaking in terms of look and feel.

Adox also has announced their new Adox Silver Max 100 ISO 35mm B&W film. Freestyle is placing an order for this exciting new film. It can be used as a very high quality negative film exhibiting a 14 contrast zone performance when used with Adox's matched developer. A 12 zone performance can be achieved with most other developers. Adox is currently working on a 5 roll capacity reversal process kit so the film can be developed at home to produce excellent high quality positive slide images.

Also new from Adox is their "Color Implosion" 35mm C-41 standard process color negative film. This new color film is a limited edition product with an unusual color pallet and variable contrast. When shot as a 100 ISO film it is rather muted with color leaning towards blue. When shot as a 400 ISO film it builds contrast and leans towards red. With the off color tones and large grain, prints from this film have a vintage 70's look and feel. No app needed here!

We had a very successful meeting with Awagami, a Japanese company that produces 21 different and unique paper formulations, some of which are handmade and some that are machine-made. All are produced from a Japanese Kozo mulberry root which is a very fast growing tree and is quickly replenished. The entire line is considered eco-friendly. All of these papers have an extraordinary handmade Japanese look and feel. Many papers are in fact handmade with each sheet having its own distinct personality. We feel that this new product is a perfect addition to our selection of digital inkjet paper offerings and will be a boon to those looking for an exclusive handmade paper that can be printed with your inkjet printer. There is nothing else like it on the market.

Freestyle is participating in the reintroduction and expansion of Ilford brand inkjet papers. In addition to the already available Prestige and Premium lines of Photograde RC papers, Ilford has announced future availability of two new fine art 330gsm matte inkjet papers, the Galerie Prestige Gold Cotton Smooth and the Galerie Prestige Gold Cotton Textured. They are also introducing a new paper specifically formulated to render images with the look and feel of a fine art black and white print called Galerie Prestige Gold Mono Silk 270gsm. The full product line will be available in January 2013.

Please keep those comments and feedback coming and remember, "Without YOU there is no US!"

Sincerely,
Eric Joseph

Just ran my first roll of SIlvermax in the dedicated developer. 11 minutes, agitation per the bottle. Looks fantastic. Contrast is exactly where I like it. Just shot a second roll to give a go in Rodinal, I may be able to pop in the darkroom tomorrow afternoon and run it.

Looks like "(Massive) Dev Chart" app to me.

I will be on the look out for this film closer to home.

I appreciate your point. I am not sure if the shipping weight differential of spools and boxes vs. bulk will really change the shipping charges significantly.

Yes, the Massive Development Chart app. Wonderful thing it is for those of us who are lazy and/OR suck at math.

Oh, and I just cut the film and sleeved it up. I might amend my method and shoot this at 80 instead. Because I'd like a tiny bit more shadow detail, and since the highlights don't seem to have blocked up at all. Quite the combo this film & developer.

Added pleasure for me in the low tech look of the edge printing. Numbered for half frames, and some minor doubling of some of the numbers. Could be quite beautiful in one of those Blackbird Fly cameras that exposes the whole film.

massive dev? of course. knew there was a reason that I should have downloaded it on my phone. I already use my phone to time everything anyway, but I always run into the other run to check the charts. silly.

lazy? yeah, that's me. math-challenged? ditto.

The Massive Dev iOS app is my go-to app. I use it not only for times, but to actually time development ... it's a great darkroom tool.

Ok, here are some scans of Silvermax developed in the dedicated chemistry. I will check out Silvermax and Rodinal next. By the way I also had Tri-X in the tank, and it worked out fine. Grain was less pronounced than with Rodinal and the developer seems to have quite a compensating effect. I increased the contrast a little here and there for the scans below.

This one was overexposed by 1.5-2 stops. I corrected it in the scanning phase.
It gives a slightly different look

thanks for the tip on the massive dev app. all the timing and mixing tools are so much easier, etc. than the plain old massive dev charts via the website.

GHO, some nice images from Silvermax. I especially like the tonal range in that second one.

I've not been back in the darkroom, swamped with writing here (it's that time of the semester again?). But I have some more to run when I get a chance. Deadline of Monday for these texts, so...

I think this looks exactly like AGFA SCALA, although when I developed it in Rodinal, the grain was not so evident, but I was not agitating much. I still have a couple of rolls left, that I am shooting now...

Yes, I read on a German forum that the Kodak color test chart shot with Scala, APX and Silvermax is looking absolutely identical. I shot a roll today just to check how it would look in Rodinal. I think the new Adox film may be a good substitute for those who liked APX. Personally I do not use ISO 100 that much.

Ok, here is one sample scan with Rodinal 1+50, 12 min, 20 C, 5 initial inversions, 2 inversions each minute. Contrast adjusted version. Even with Rodinal the grain is very tame. In general the negatives scanned very flatly, so there was plenty of room for interpretation, especially in the highlights.

I bought mine from Fotoimpex. Good price and took 3 weeks to get to me here in Nevada. I did not order the developer as this has to work in my present favorites (Caffenol-C, Rodinal, HC110 or D76) for it to interest me.

I'll have to wait to see what Freestyle charges but through Fotoimpex it is more expensive than Arista EDU 100/Fomapan 100 or Arista Premium 400, which are my current go-to emulsions. Efke 25 is still my favorite but once the freezer stock runs out I will be looking for some type of replacement. In hopes that Silvermax might fill the gap I will be trying this at EI50 or even slower, but I doubt it.

Have you tried Pan-F? Not the same as Efke/Adox25, but similar in some ways. There is talk of a slow film from Adox since the 25 was so popular.
