Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

Anyway, can't afford an M9 so I can't really do a comparison. I love my M8.2 and the crop factors don't bother me at all (like they do on my Nikon 1.5x). My 28mm is a 35mm, my 35mm is a 50mm and my 50 is a 75mm. That takes care of 95% of my shooting without a second thought. So I can carry my 50 on my M7 and my 35 on my M8.2, shoot all day with both and never think twice.

The only reason is for an M9 is if you love the 21mm lens. Anyway, if you can be happy with a 50/2 on the M9 then why buy a Summilux for the M8?

As previous poster said, if you shoot B&W the m8 is the way to go. Absolutely superb B&W files.

I love my m8 and don't see the need for a $5000 upgrade. It handles just like the M6 you love, it's files are better than you'll ever get with a scanned M6 negative, and the "crop factor" is irrelevant for me. My 21 = 28; 28=35; 35= 50. Simple.
