Taking BW paper on the airplane...

So I will be traveling to San Francisco and I found a deal there for photo paper. I found a bunch of it for a good price and was thinking of bringing it back with me in my suitcase.
Do I have to worry about Xray damage like with film? Should I just ship it back to myself?
Thanks,

-Sam

Dear Sam,

Ilford first discovered that high-power X-ray machines were in use at airports as the result of damage to paper.

DON'T put it in checked baggage, unless you're feeling unusually lucky.

Cheers,

R.

How about carry-on?
I might ship it back to myself...
I might be able to score 750 sheets of fresh, unopened 8x10 Ilford Pearl fiber for $40, so that's why I am going through the trouble.

Carry it on with you. The scanning machines at security will be safe.

Don't check it in luggage. Those are serious x-ray scanners. The paper will fog.

A box of photo paper will show as solid black on the monitor and security might want to open it. Happened to me. That was about 7 years ago. Don't know whether current scanners are any better.
