I have motor dives on the four SLRs (Nikon F, F2, FA, FM) that I routinely shoot with, and I use them for reasons that are important to me as the shooter, and frankly wouldn't and don't care what a stranger thinks about it.
For candid street photography
I feel they are essential simply because with them the shutter is always cocked, so I never lose a candid simply because the film wasn't advanced, and there is no need to remove the camera from my eye to advance the film.
And except for the outrageous prices that they command, I'd also have drives on my Nikon rangefinders as well.
