at last ,I'll have a rangefinder

Hello ,everybody !
I'm new in the gang , at last I bought ,and waiting for the packages TWOO ,but not one rangefinder at once!!!
I am waiting for the postman to bring a FED 5B and a Kiev 4a these days and I am anxious to try them with film . I am in my fifties , my father had a zorky 3 (I think) wich charmed me when I was a little boy. I never used a rangefinder .Started photography with a Zenit E .
What should I expect from these new cameras as IQ and also shooting fun ?
Please feel free posting smaples in this thread .
Thanks !

All i have to say to an SLR shooter moving to an RF is this:

Lens cap.

IQ will depend on what lenses you mount up front and if you focus correctly, and expose correctly. As for fun...i think rangefinders are a blast and people do seem more friendly to them than SLRs.

teo, glad to see you here. this is a superb site, RF intensive, but even better photographs in the gallery.

I think there's about 4 shots on the roll that's currently in my RF that will be affected by that little foible.

Almost enough to convince me to stick with SLRs

Where in Romania?

I've only ever been there twice, but hope (a) to get back and (b) to meet you there if I do.

Cheers,

R.

I have a Fed 5. It's a stout camera. A bit heavy but I think you will enjoy it. If the Kiev is in good shape it will probably be your main carry. Kiev's do tend to have their problems for some reason, but a good working Kiev takes excellent photo's. Welcome to the forum & post often.

So are you in Bukovina?

I think you will enjoy your cameras. As others have said, get a nice lens for each -- like a Jupiter 8 (50mm f2) and I think you will be very happy with your image quality. Unfortunately you need different lens mounts for each camera, but the lenses should not be expensive.

One more thing -- make sure you have wound the shutter before trying to change shutter speeds! (And you don't need a lens cap for the Kiev, since it has a metal shutter -- the sun won't burn a hole in it.)

Hello , Nick !
Tecknically , some 20km away from the eastern border of the historical Bucovina (wich is a territory of the Moldavia principality wich was occupied the Habsburgic Empire in 1775,and returned in 1918. This name dates back in that period of Habsburgic occupation ).
Going back to the rangefinders ,the only problem that I have is that I don't have any more a decent lab in my city .
Yes , the lenses are quite unexpensive .
