does the m4p have 28 lines? I'd put in a 21-28-50-75/90 combination.

What I use most is 21/28/50. Of those, 28 & 50 get the most use. Hardly ever use 90 or 35. I really like the 28mm framelines on the M4-P - my favourite FL.

M4-P .... 21-35-50-90. To keep it simple, a 35mm will do (or the 40/2.0 M-Rokkor in my case)

21-35-50
24-40-90
Plus a lot a variations for two lens combos as well...

The camera makes no difference. The camera doesn't care what you attach to it nor how you use it.
OK, in the Grand Rangefinder Scheme of things:
Konica. Hexar 50/3.5. Leaf shutter. Circa 1949-1950.
Canon VI-T. Komura 28/3.5, Canon 35/2.8, Nikkor 50/1.4, Nikkor 85/2.0.
Leica M5. Konica 28/2.8, Konica 35/2.0 UC-Hexanon, Leitz 50/2.0 D.R. Summicron, Leitz 90/2.8 Elmarit-M.
All of the LTM lenses are available for switch hitting duty.
Second string: Leitz 90mm/2.8 Elmarit. Canon 135mm/3.5.
Could an M4-P take over for the VI-T? Sure. Why not? Could an M4-P take over the M5? Not bloody likely, Roger.
Enjoy your toys.

For me - 21 CV/40 cron / 50 cron and call it a day. So light I forget I'm even carrying any gear.
The M4p is my favorite M, I currently own or have owned the M3/5/8 and the M4p is the one I always reach for.

Joe,
I know this is a bit different than your situation, but I use a CL with CV 35/2.5. Never have a need to wonder what another FL would do. Just grab it and shoot. Sometimes simplicity is a good thing. YMMV, tho.

Mine is M6 28/50/90 Summicrons. Had the 50 Sonnar but prefer the Summicron 50.

My M4-2 kit is 35/50, where the 35 is used pretty exclusively for street, and the 50 for everything else. I may supplement with a 28 for interiors, narrow streets, or close-in environmental portraits.
I flirted w/ 25. It didn't take. My CV 25/4 will be for sale soon.

21-35-50, that will be my pick. On a full frame, u really should make full use of the wide angle.

Personally, I think I'd find 40 and 50 too close. But it really is extremely personal. For years I used 21/35/90 (bold for main lens -- in this case, pre-aspheric Summilux); then 35/75, after the 75 Summicron came out; and now mostly 18/50/75 (C-Sonnar). Frances prefers 28, 50 and 90. But we also have 15 and 135.
Then again, I've been using Leicas since 1969, so I've had time to pick up some lenses...
Cheers,
R.

35 / 75 really works for me.
Me, I believe getting accustomed to one lens is more important than the 40/50 difference to justify having them both.
But as said above it's personal!

And contrary to what I just stated, my signature reminds me of the fact that I'm looking for a wide-angle converter for my X100, so that I can have both 28 and 35mm...
So not only is it personal, it also strongly depends on the mood you're in

i don't have a 35 and usually use my 40 as a 35...
i likely will end up trying all my lenses and just seeing what works best for me and the film i choose to use.

if it was Moi...35 & 75
If its For You...then keep your 40 sonnar and just get the 75 Heliar
and save Your pennies for the apo Cron ( thats what I'm doing for that 75 )
who needs wider than the 35mm
and a 75 seems Grand
all Fields Covered
no need for a 50 or a 90
Just my heartfelt Ramblings...
BEST- H

I have an M4-P and a Jupiter-8 which is a Sonnar type I think. I'm going to buy a C Biogon 35.
35/50 for a 35mm rangefinder works just perfect for me (had a Color Skopar 35 before).

helen, i have a cv 75/2.5 (bought from roland) that i plan on using on the m4-p...very nice lens and while i have been admiring the summicon 75 i dislike paying that much for a lens.
jamais...i had the zeiss 35/2.5...great lens, would love another but...the 40 sonnar owns my heart.

So, 40 and 75, with the 50f1.4 as your fast lens. Done.
