Yea, I still don't have enough dough for the Leica but I can feel one coming soon...

Camera's in Chronological Order:

Canon Digital Elph (circa 2000)
Canon Powershot (circa 2002)
Canon 20D (circa 2007)
Canon 5dmkii
Canon 7d
Canonet QIII (First film camera)
Nikon FM
Pentax 67 (First medium format)
Nikon N90s
Voigtlander Bessa R (with CV 15mm 4.5)
Hasselblad 38mm SWC
Voigtlander R4M (with Zeiss 21mm f2.8)

I moved from point and shoots -> dslr's -> slr's -> rangefinders :-).

First time...in the 90s, it went Pentax k1000, some Pentax AF distaster, Nikon FM2, Nikon F4, then Leica M4-2. Last time, who knows...too many to count.

Starting around 1959, not counting quite a few long-term borrowed cameras over the years:

Canter Beauty
FR Reporter (2-1/4 x 3-1/4)
Kodak Retina 1
Miniature Speed Graphic
Nikkormat FS
Leica iii-f
Canon ii-f
Leica M3
Leica M3
Leica iii-a
Olympus OM1
Olympus OM2
Leica M4-2
Leica M2
Nikon D300
Nikon FM
Nikon FA
Nikon FG, x6

All of the Leicas are gone, except for the iii-a.

That's blowing off some side-trips in to other formats. (Hasselblad, currently).
You can see I'm sort of wandering backwards now, my main machines being FGs with various films in them, spotted around in various places, like work, home, etc. The FG is functionally an M6-TTL, and that's good enough for me.

not a fan of people who buy panasonic leica badged camera's as leicas.

unfortunately 95 percent of leica owners are brand snobs.

When all my friends were buying dslrs like mark i and selling it for less than half the price every 2 years, i was researching what would be the perfect kit for me.

So i saved up all , went camera-less until the age of 20 and bought a Leica MP and 50mm summilux and a 35mm 1.4 nokton for backup.

i feel fulfilled and honestly i can see my laptop , tv , car everything getting replaced but I feel like this whole kit is a keeper.

so while my friends are loosing their money on dslrs i am now saving up for a noctilux

I'd had a few compacts before, but I got hooked on photography with a Pentax K200D (DSLR), then hooked on film with my dad's old Ricoh KR5. Got a Pentax MX for a short while, until I tried a FED 5 and realised I liked rangefinders. Spent some time with a Canon P until I got my M4. A little less than two years between the Pentax DSLR and the M4. I still have the DSLR and dad's old Ricoh, but the other cameras were sold in the process.

I "was" on my way to an M until I fondled a few. Got to look thru a few finders & saw that they wern't as bright as the finder on my Bessa. I also found out that shooting beside a fellow with an M9, his shutter was horribly louder than my shutter on the Bessa. (must of been the sound it made when writing on the card) I also liked it that my Bessa feels lighter around my neck when carrying it. M's are heavy. So that day my lust for a Leica M died. Not saying they are lousy camera's, just not for me at this time. If I do upgrade from my R it will most likely be a R2a or R4a.

I haven't been at it as long as some of you guys, but my first camera was an OM-2n that I found at a garage sale while in college. That was about '95-'96? In '98 I sold that and got a baby speed graphic with 67 & 69 backs. I briefly used a Lubitel then YashicaMat. I used a couple speed graphics and mono rails. I really liked the big negatives.

I came back to OM in '99 and then acquired different lenses and bodies in the OM system. I became interested in Leica after trying out an M3 & M6 in 2003. I settled on an MP and have been happy since. I gave my last OM-1n to my sister.

I'd love to get back into large format again soon.

Let's see... Up till 2001:
Nikon FM2N
Nikkormat FT2
Leica IIIG (1996)

Since 2001, roughly in order...some multiples, some are long gone:
M6TTL
M7
Contax N Digital
Contax N1
Contax G2
Contax NX
M5
D70
Hexar RF
Contax Aria
Contax ST
Contax RX
F2
D300
Nikon S3 2000
Nikon S2
Nikon SP
F3
Nikon EM
Nikon FG
Voigtlander R3M

Nikon N2000

That's called a Gas attack.

What I miss that I've sold:

Leica M3 + 50/2 DR (Dad's camera)

Kodak Pocket Instamatic

Polaroid SX-70 (Dad's camera)

Ricoh KR-5 Super (My first "real" camera; K-mount with absolutely superb 50/2; still have & use as a rain camera; like it so much I've considered getting another but the one I have is unkillable)

Nikon FE-2 (first of several; these are long-time favorites; with MD12, various TTL flashes etc.)

Nikon FM-2 (sold, along with the 180/2.8 ED for tuition; kept the FE-2s)

Note: the KR-5, FE-2s, and FM-2 are the only cameras I've used to earn money. I also assisted in a commercial studio where I learned to use and learned to dislike Hassys and 4x5 gear.

Nikon FA (sold because I liked it less than any 35mm camera I've ever used)

Nikkormat FT-2 (Mom's camera; needs work but not valuable enough to merit it)

Leica M6 <--- "Full Circle"

(Ricoh GR-1, Yashica T5, MjuII, etc.; various Olympus DSLRs)

Fuji X-Pro1<---Love. It.

Minolta CLE<---Might be the best of all of 'em: small; light; cheap; silicon photodiode metering; modern batteries; takes M lenses; almost all salient features of my beloved FE2s, including TTL flash. Brilliant little camera and I should have got a couple of them years ago.

All these camera's, and I had NO idea this was a journey to an "M". Guess I can stop now. I thought there was gold at the end of the rainbow... Not Iron Pyrites.

Started with a gifted Kodak something??? It was very thin. I loved it. Bought my first camera at 17. A Canon AE-1. Used it until afew years ago when I was gifted an M9.

Reading all the progression lists here makes me feel like I have missed out on a lot. For years I was more than happy with Canon and looked no further than their lens catalogues. Did not feel the need for more than one camera. Then I found RFF.....

Still working my way up to an M, though after holding an M3 I have no doubt it will happen sooner rather than later.

Roughly in this order:

- Canon Rebel 2000: I think I put maybe a roll through this in the span of two years. Sold.
- Canon Rebel XT: Bought years later when I decided to get back into photography. Sold.
- Pentax K10D: Really nice camera. Abysmal selection of lenses. Sold.
- Pentax ME: Great camera, still have it. Really compact!
- Mamiya 645 1000s: Loved shooting this, but it was too bulky so it went. Sold.
- Nikon D200: Love this camera, still have it. Really fed up with the bulk for street shooting though.
- Yashica Electro 35 GSN: Bought this to see how a rangefinder worked. Nice little camera but it feels terrible in my hands. Just can't get used to it. Going to sell.
- Zenit 12XP: Someone gave me this camera. It's a brick and I have no plans to use it, but I can't sell it since it was a gift >:|
- Zorki 6: Absolutely perfect form factor. Love it. Got it just this past week, but the shutter ribbon broke. Awaiting replacement, but expect to use this until I get my M!
- FED-2: Awaiting delivery on this one. Picked it up on eBay because it was $17 and I wanted to see how a FED looked. Have high hopes for a nice body
- [This space reserved for my future M and all the gushing I'll do about it ]

Yes, here's a picture from cameraquest.com
http://www.cameraquest.com/lm3blk.htm

Mine was a chrome M3 but I had a buddy who was a leica repair person who went back to the factory at least once a year and picked up parts and I gave him both of my M3's in I think 74 and had them rebuilt in the factory and had one turned into black. They used to do that, they both came back in sealed plastic bags looking like NEW. I was so afraid to damage the Black M3 I did not use it that much and then someone made me a offer I though was crazy, well it was for that year. Nothing like what it would be worth now, I learned my lesson and that was the last Leica lens or body I sold.
