Fujinon 1.2/5cm LTM
I have just come upon the rarest of lenses: a Fujinon LTM 1.2/5cm. It appeared on the Brazilian ebay - seller didn't know what he was offering - and i was lucky enough to pick it up. This lens doesn't have any recorded sales on ebay, flickr has one registered user ..
Now, its condition is another issue. Heavily used, in need of a cla and the front element is full of cleaning marks. No scratches or fractures in the glass however. Rear element and inner elements seem to be ok. I've mailed focal point and might send it to them to have the front element recovered (polished and maybe coated, although this originally is an uncoated lens I believe).
Information on this lens is very scarce. Do any of you have info or reference ? Maybe someone on the forum owns one and can tell something about its optical performance ?
Cheers to all !
I'll post pics of the lens later on.

You have found a truly rare gem. I doubt it's optical performance at F1.2 is all that good, but who really cares. The value of this lens is that of a functional collectible. It represents a supreme technical effort optically for its time.

Wonderful! Could you show us some photos of the lens?

The lens is sharp and has a medium contrast. Is yours chrome or black?

The last one sold on eBay for $3600 in late nov'10 at the height of Christmas spending frenzy. I highly recommend John a FP but, will re-coating reduce value? Clearly this lens is mostly if interest to collectors. BTW congrats on your rare find!

Mine is black with a chrome filter-ring that can be taken off. It is heavily used, but I think the front element can be recovered (well, if polishing can be called 'recovery'). I haven't sent it to JvS yet, because I haven't made up my mind yet in regards to coating or not. It will improve performance, but it might reduce value and I'll probably resell it. I'll post some pics before sending it off.

If it has numerous cleaning marks, then what's the use? You'd be better off with a clean slow lens than a superfast lens with cleaning marks.
I've shots lenses with cleaning marks, and depending on the severity, they definitely can affect the image.

There are a few posted on flickr. For instance:

Other searches might yield more.

This is why I'm sending it to Focal Point to get it polished, and see how it performs after. I'll probably ask him to apply coating as well.

You are doing the right thing. This is a lens that is totally worth restoring and improving by repolishing and applying a modern good quality coating. It should add value to the lens.

A few taken on M8 with the Fujinon50f1.2 @ f1.2 when I had it. Its performance and build quality is very good for a lens in its time even at f1.2.
