I hate this site. I really, really do.

I have to do something radical to get my IP banned, because you all have just made me buy not just another camera per se, but a whole new system!

Not used my OM gear for ages, but just picked up a 50/1.4 silvernose and a 24/2.8 both optically very nice.

Might have to dust off the OMs......

Thanks! The only items originally described and displayed was the camera, 50mm and 70-210mm lens. When I'd opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised! Whoever owned it before, took great care of everything.

I'd love to try the 18mm but it is priced far outside of my reach. Hell, so is the 16mm! The only reason I own this lens is because it was included free of charge with an old beat up OM-2 I purchased off craigslist. Actually, all my OM gear came from lucky craigslist finds. Otherwise I could never afford my impressive kit!


I recently traveled to Seattle to visit my mother, and took only the Fisheye with me. I loved every second with it.

I notice someone over in another un-rf thread is complaining about the atrocious meter read out in the viewfinder of their recently aquired Nikon F3!

Don't these people ever learn?

Thanks! it's funny that I assumed I would want a 1.4, but I see no real need to replace this lens. It definitely gets the job done...

The 50mm f1.8 is a nice lens but it has a lot of barrel distortion. Most Zuikos 50mm and below seem to exhibit some but this lens has more than I've seen in any other 50mm!

Next time your in Seattle, let us know! I'll let you try out an 18mm (not to mention introducing you to the Big Time ).

The meter issue can be solved in several ways.

1) get the hearing aid batteries. They work but don't last more than a few months. Simple, cheap.

2) get a CR1/MR9 adapter. They cost probably more than the OM1 itself but are easy to use and you don't have to modify anything.

3) get it modified internally. This is cheap if you can do it yourself but pricey if done professionally. (worth it either way)

4) just stick a 1.5 volt battery in there and compensate for the high reading. (typically 1 stop, but not consistent)

5) use an external light meter or iphone

6) go without meter and just use the Sunny-16 rule. Pretty easy and surprisingly accurate with some practice.

7) use OM2 instead

For me there is only one way.
No 6.
OM-1 is a classic camera meant to be used in a classic way.

That was probably me Keith. I had heard the readout was bad in the F3 but I though 'how bad could it really be?' Yeah. There's a reason they added aperture priority Auto to that camera, so you could actually take properly exposed pictures! Haha.
