Optics and Lenses - This forum is aimed towards the TECHNICAL side of photographic OPTICS and LENSES. There will be some overlap by camera/manufacturer, but this forum is for the heavy duty tech discussions. This is NOT the place to discuss a specific lens or lens line, do that in the appropriate forum. This is the forum to discuss optics or lenses in general, to learn about the tech behind the lenses and images. IF you have a question about a specific lens, post it in the forum about that type of camera, NOT HERE.

I've worked at a research lab for 30 years. I always tell people that when someone is kicking my stuff and screaming "What IDIOT came up with THIS!" I can stand up and say "I AM THAT IDIOT!"

Brian has helped me a lot with his wisdom, Thanks Brian. But I think you could have picked a real guitar player, like Jimmy Rosenberg:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OH6Kzl78mY

Watch it; he was 14+- when he did this, and it is only 41 seconds long.

Yes, I agree 100% - that ole Tokyo Nikkor 50/2.0 LTM that I received from you that Brian cleaned up is one of my favorite lenses of all time *Old Faithful*

I'll toast Mr. Sweeney as well. His comments are always enlightening.

But I'll see your Clapton and raise you-- Richard Thompson. Now THERE's a guitar virtuoso. And brilliant songwriter as well (Calvary Cross, Down Where the Drunkards Roll, Night Comes In, etc....)

Brian gave much free advice on a 105/2.5 Nikkor. He's Mr. Shim.

As long as we're mentioning guitarists, how about Stevie Ray Vaughn? Local hero, and his last performance was with Clapton.

Now you're talkin'! Somehow, "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight" seems all too appropriate.

But if i had to pick, i'd go with Sonny Sharrock - perfect combination of punk rock and jazz, and his versatility seems very fitting for Brian's work!

Any way you slice it, hats off to you, kind sir.

When I think of Brian, I think more of Django Reinhart, a true improviser.

Haven't been around, and late to the party. I'd use Segovia for the guitarist, since Brian works on Classic(al) lenses...

What he has been able to do with an oldie that became a goodie (and more than once!) is almost magic. It's nice to have him back, and nice to see a tribute to one of the really nice people that inhabit this place.

May you stay well, and prosper, Brian...

Harry

You realize, of course, that that's seriously, dangerously Trekkie/nerdy?

I think we can all appreciate the wisdom in Star Trek.

Not to mention how much the 1960's Star Trek Comic Books have appreciated. Best $0.12 I ever spent.

I don't think I ever saw the Star Trek comic books (I was buying the Marvel products). But I bet those are quite valuable now.

"Mr. Shim" -- I like that.

I saw a 1966 Number one issue of Star Trek with the Captain Kirk photo on the back sell for the price of an M8.

I think I'll list mine when the new movie comes out.

They call me "Mr. Shim". Naa- I prefer "What IDIOT came up with THIS!"

I knew a guy who bought an original-version video recorder back in the late 1960s for serious money because he wanted to record Star Trek shows as they were being broadcast. He assumed those now-classic episodes would never be seen again. Little did he know the show would go into almost immediate syndication.

So does this make Tom A Hendrix or Beck (Jeff, not the equally interesting modern artist)?

Darn, I blew my cover...

Pics are at the processor, away for a few days, will have some results mid week. Probably post on the "bokeh" thread. The movie is called "Twilight in the Swamp", but I'll just post stills.

That recorder someone talked about was probably Betamax. Great format, but Sony was totally inept marketing the product. Pro's said "Yes", public said "Huh". I still have one of those around, 'cause it's in the rack, and I never took it out....
