Konica Hexanon 50mm f2 wide open @infinity very soft

A few days ago I bought a Konica Hexar RF set with the M-Hexanon 50mm f2 lens.
I just did a few handheld test shots with the M8 to compare the Hexanon with my '70s Cron.
Wide open, near infinity, the Hexanon is disappointingly soft, with details and contrast suffering badly and it is absolutely no match for the seasoned Cron.
At close distances, it performs (almost) at the Cron level. Will do some more tests later today at middle distances.
How do my first impressions compare to your experience with the Konica M-Hexanon 50 f2?
