Here you have the first shots with my new Zorki4.

Remains of an old house in the middle of a wood on the mountains around Turin (NW Italy, near France).

And here a view towards the valley. Without that haze you would have seen (is it right? would-have-seen ) the town of Turin.

The feeling I get with the Zorki 4 in my hands is the best after the Leica M3 and the Kiev4A. In this order.

I just got my feds yesterday and I want more! Talk about addictive!

Addiction to russian rangefinders is a well known pathology.
It causes a compulsive need to own new and new heavy metallic boxes that make CLACK when you press a button.
A serious situation...

By the way, the Zorki does not have a frame for other lenses than 50mm, like every other russian rangefinder, if I'm not misjudging.
You have to use an external finder.

Sorry, Joe, but it doesn't. For other than the normal 50mm lens, you'll require an accessory finder.

The FSU copy of the Contax Universal Finder is excellent and will cost $50 - $60 on average plus shipping. It has finder views of 28, 35, 50, 85 & 135mm. If you have no intention of ever getting a 28mm lens, then you can likely find a Leitz IMARECT finder for the same money.

The Leitz (Leica) finder has 35, 50, 73 or 85, 90 & 135mm views and it's parallax correction is much better than the Contax finder. The Imarect doesn't, however, provide a view of anything beyond the field of view of the selected lens. The Contax finder covers a greater area than the lens being used so you can see outside the coverage of the lens.

Good to see your Zorki is working, Carburo! Is the atmospheric haze common around there or only an occasional problem?

"Would have seen" is fine as you used it, implying the certainty of seeing. But with "By the way, the Zorki does not have a frame for other lenses than 50mm, like every other russian rangefinder" you did introduce some ambiguity by placing the "like every..." phrase after the "does not". One wonders if other FSU RFs are like the Zorki in this respect or unlike it; as phrased, it's ambiguous. You did clarify this in your next sentence about external finders, though!

Is it possible some of the latest models have other framelines in the viewfinder? Somehow it never occurred to me that they might...

There are a few Russian RFs with other framelines in the finder: Kiev 5, Drug, and Leningrad. BTW, the turret finder works great for 35mm lenses, possibly 28 (don't own one), but is useless for 85mm an 135mm lenses at portrait distances (less than 5 m), since even with those ridiculous marks on the side, it is almost impossible to correct for parallax, and most of the time you (OK, I ) will cut off an ear, a nose, or something - that's why I finally got a Bessa-R! It might work with long lenses at landscape distances, though!

Carburo, those are very nice pics. Gives one a sense of being there, like seeing a view of Italy that is not in the travel books.

Very nice countryside, and very good pictures too. I would be taking more pictures of that abandoned house up closer than the one you show us. That stairway without a platform and the empty doorways look very interesting!
