A big sale like this on a recently announced camera like the d600, makes u wonder why.. According to the sf chronicle article, sounds like sale after Black Friday are way off.

Great price for what it is, I just cannot bring myself to want one though. An excellent deal all the same.

I've returned two of them for the widely discussed oil and dust contamination issue, which is very real. Both produced superb IQ while clean, but I'm not sure if I'll try again.

I forgot about this issue... This could be the reason for the sale price on such a new camera?

Costco's two-lens D600 bundle (which also includes the WiFi adapter and a 32GB SD card) is now down to $2390; that's $600 less than I paid on October 23rd (that was the second D600 I ended up returning; the first came from Amazon). All of the reduction has come in the past few days; I don't see anything similar happening with Canon. The Amazon kit with the 28-85mm has come down $700, but they've left the "Body Only" price at $2K, which seems like an accounting trick to me.
I can't believe this was the original plan, to cut the kit price by more than 25% only three months after launch.

So much for my one-camera-one-lens-X-Pro1 experiment. I ordered the works from B&H. Dust, you say? Every Nikon DSLR I have ever owned has been a dust magnet. It's a pain but the results are worth it to me.

I have two 5 year old D40 bodies that have been cleaned once and are spotless. The D600 problem is not just dust - it's oil or some other lubricant. It welds to the sensor and cannot be blown off; only a wet cleaning works. With the second body I did two wet cleanings before giving up at around 1400 shots. Some have written that the problem goes away at about 3000 shots, but I decided the whole situation is just ridiculous. Imagine this in the film era when you'd pay for processing. 3000 actuations plus a cleaning to get to the point you should have been when you opened the box? No thanks.

The new Canon 6D has just, came out not long ago, so everyone will not expect a price drop yet, unless their sales are really that baddd...
With that said, this is going to be a very good option for many people out there who "could not afford" full frame, not that 2000 dollars is that affordable anyway...

Received D600 from B&H, serial 304 series, cleanest out of box sensor I've ever had from Nikon!

Yes, this is a very nice sale. Most the the big sellers have the same offer, plus or minus a few goodies.
It's so great to mount my 20 f/2.8 and have it be really wide, like it always was.
