My advice, stop screwing around trying to make the X1 something it is not. Use it and learn it. The only thing the X1 needs is a competent photographer and it takes time to learn and master any camera in every situation possible. I might have accomplished that somewhat with the Nikon SLRs since the 70s and I may accomplish that with the M3 if I live another 20 years.
I figure I will be consistently competent with the X1 a bit sooner (10 years?) as the feedback and ease of experimentation with a digital camera makes the learning curve shorter.
Now, if you must alter the camera, let us know how it turns out.
In the meantime, use the camera you love...if it is something else, use it instead.
Leica bashers, go elsewhere.
