New epson R-d1 user

Hi Guys, I am new to RFF and epson R-D1. I bought my camera a while back and wasn't actually comfortable using it until one holiday I forced myself to bring it as my only camera. I have to say I really like this camera and will definately use it more often. Here are some of the pictures I took during my holiday around Australia. It was all taken using voigtlander 35mm 2.5 CS which the was sold together with the camera. I shoot JPEG only (I don't have software to process the RAW files) with cropping here and there.

This was a lucky candid on a plane. ISO 1600, which I am really surprised it came out really sharp.

A wedding being prepared inside Sydney opera house, the picture taken from outside the window, the grain is actually reflection of the road on the window.

Sydney opera house at sunset. ISO 800 I think

Life guard with really bright outfit.

This camera is brilliant for jumping pictures, no shutter lag, I only need to shoot once unlike dslr I do multiple shots and choose the one I like.

Any comments would be appreciated Thank you. Gus.

Nice shots - I'd suggest shooting RAW though to get the most out of the camera. You can set it up to shoot RAW + JPG for the best of both worlds or just RAW as I use.

The free Epson RAW software is still available here - http://www.epson.jp/dl_soft/list/1811.htm

You can also use a whole bunch of free RAW converters - on the mac there are several and I'm sure there's plenty on Windows but the Epson one does the job.

BTW nice to see a picture of Southbank from where I live in Brisbane - thanks ^^

Hi Rollbahn great to know there is also someone in Brisbane using R-D1 camera, thank's for the comment and recommendation. I will try the raw converter you suggested.

Hi tuanvinh2000 thank's for the comment! I think I can see myself using these camera for years to come. Btw I noticed you are using 21mm zeiss lens a lot. Is that a good lens for general use? I am happy at the moment with my voigtlander 35mm 2.5 but sometimes it does feel not wide enough.

i used a 35mm for the last year exclusively and found myself start to take the same pictures over again so that's why i get the zeiss 21 to get myself to a different point of view. It's very natural for me with the 35mm on the epson that i can close my eyes and shoot and know exactly where my frame is the zeiss 21 is still new (only a few weeks old to me/got it used for low price). so really depends on your need. My tipping point was when i bought a disposable camera and found i like 35mm lens a lot too.

Welcome to RFF and the RD1s, probably my favorite camera of all time.
Nice "jumping picture"!

Hi tuanvinh2000 I also really like 35mm lens on my 5D full frame its not too wide yet still good enough for potrait. My 35mm on epson becomes 56mm a bit too long for me sometimes so I bring 2 camera now, my epson and my epl2 with 14mm lens (becomes 28mm). I think I will try to buy 50mm zeiss f2 before going wide on epson.

Fotomeow thank's for the comment I can see myself using RD1 for a long long time as long as the camera continues to work.
