Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

A 1.3 crop rangefinder at $3,500 is in competition with the Sony NEX 5N at $600. So, no, I wouldn't pay $3,500. Get it done for $1,000 - $1,500 and I'd be interested.

I can't see why a camera that does not even has a viewfinder at all, is in competition with a rangefinder.

Should my M8 break down it would be very nice to have an equivalent replacement option. Crop 1.3 is perfect for the lenses I have. But I see no chance for another crop Leica because the number of potential buyers is not so big.

Would I buy second best because it is cheaper?

Yes, of course, if there were absolutely no way I could afford the camera I really wanted.

But I can't help wondering how many people refuse to reassess their priorities.

Our newest car is 1990. We don't have central heating or air conditioning. We spend very little on clothes, and eat out only when we are travelling. But we travel a lot, with good cameras...

Cheers,

R.

I'm just going to leave this here:

As much as I hate to talk about rumours, SAR has been right on the target for most of its rumours in the past two years.
