Epson v700 can't scan!

Glad for any suggestions about why my scanner will not scan..the thumb nail preview usually takes seconds..tonight it is taking about 5 mins and then unable to retrieve any previews..I have tried for an hour!, each time is the same.

Thanks for any advice.

Is the lid plugged into the base? I've had that connection slip out and it gave me a few moments of panic.

Second, my v700 went bad after less than a year of use, with similar symptoms: long scans on preview and it would only show garbage (orange streaks primarily). Epson repaired it (replaced the defective parts, which was most of the internal guts of the scanner) under warranty. I hope that's not the case with yours, but it's not unheard of for these things to fail.

never happened with mine. do you use the epson scan software or a different product? if you have an alternative try that in order to exclude a software issue first.

Unlocked the two transport locks? The one at the rear and the one on the top half.

The problem is solved by using the original negative holders but when I change back to the 'Better Scanning' holder which has worked fine until last night, I'm back to no previews found..
I have a recalcitrant scanner!

Mine did this yesterday. fixed by setting the frames for cropping to medium format and 6x6. All worked fine after that.

also, the rear inch or so of the glass platen needs to be clear for the v700 to work - you'll notice the stock film holders have a cutout for this at the rear. so when you use the better scanning holder, you should align the front edge of it with the front edge of the platen to keep the back edge clear. don't align the better scanning holder with the back edge of the platen.

not sure if this is your issue but just in case...
