Ilford Hp5 in HC-110

Hi,

I recently exposed some Ilford HP5 (35mm) at EI: 200, as well as 400. I wanted to use HC-110 Dilution H.

I was wondering if anyone else had done this before? Do you have a time you can recommend to me (I realise that I still will have to test). How about agitation scheme?

How do you think this combination performs? Compared to TRI-X?

Thankyou in advance^^ if anyone has some information on this.

Film explorer: process it just like you have been doing Tri-X. I find no discernible difference between the two. Whatever difference there is between the two films is less than the difference between one frame and another. I have many prints made with HP5, Neopan 400 and Tri-X. I cannot see any difference.

I shot Neopan 400 for about 8 years but with about 5 bricks of HP5 mixed in the middle when Neopan was unavailable. Then I switched to Tri-X about 2 years ago because of price. My transitions from one film to another included shooting several rolls of each and developing in the same tank to search for differences. I cannot find any differences of note.

Thanks znapper and Bob!

I actually tried to check the massive development chart website, but couldn't find results for H dilution at 400.

Thanks for those links, excellent reading!. Also Bob I will try your suggestion and soup as I do TRI-X. I have heard that HP5 is a robust film for handling, which is good for a beginner like me^!^

Traditional thinking is that the Dil H time is double the Dil B time. My experience supports that. After once trying alternatives, I am back to 10 minutes using Dil H with Tri-X, HP5 and Neopan 400.

I do not do the flickr or RFF gallery thing but any b&w photo that is not a square on my personal website was developed in HC110 Dil H. That is the only developer I have used in the last 10 years. Now all photos were shot with either Tri-X, Neopan 400 or HP5 but I don't bother tracking which since it makes no difference.

Paul and Bob, thanks - I just woke up down under with the thread about Kodak's demise and nearly spilt my coffee on my pants! It took some sustained reading until page 3 to see that everything was okay.

I am now going straight to those photos you both suggested. Have a nice day!
