Rolleicord Shutter Release Button

I've been hearing a lot about a shutter release button for the Rolleicord, which is something mine seems to have come without, and wondering the best options to get one.

I use a VA myself, and always found releasing the shutter via the cocking lever compromised the firm grip I had on the rolleicord to guard against camera shake.

Any thoughts or ideas welcome

The auxiliary shutter release that threads into the cable release socket shows up on eBay every now and then, but it's pretty hard to find.

For what it's worth, I didn't like it because I found pushing upwards to release the shutter actually made camera shake worse, since you're not pushing against your grip but against only the weight of the camera.

I gave mine away to a friend and they ended up not using it either. A better option to ward off camera shake would be a short regular cable release, even if you're using it handheld. That way you're not pushing/poking the camera at all.

Many Rolleicord users are indeed unaware that their camera once had a shutter release button. Unfortunately the button module is easily removable and must be removed if one wants to use a release cable. Many if not most buttons have disappeared. Finding a replacement button can be difficult and expensive. I haven't seen a Chinese copy either.

A short (like 5cm) release cable is a fairly good alternative though. You need to learn how to use it but I think it's better than poking the cocking lever.

Hmm, yes, have a small release, but have to say it is not my favourite option either. It is a pity some chinese copy has not turned up alright, or perhaps even a way to fashion something from a cannibalised shutter release or the like.

Get hold of the appropriate Rolleiflex pistol grip with release cable. You should be able to find one for pennies.

Don't fancy the bulk. Although that said, do need a rolleifix for some tripod shooting, so may pick up the pistol grip just for that.

I believe you can get one of the releases from Harry Fleenor. At least he provided me one on request when he recently did a CLA on my Rolleicord. It makes a lot of difference IMHO. With all the replica Chinese made replica shades for Leica, etc., I'm kind of surprised nobody has come up with these at a reasonable price.

I've had the same issue with my Vb. On an earlier thread, one coordinated shooter said he focuses (on the Vb) with his thumb and forefinger, then reaches down with his longer index finger to pull the shutter lever outward. My left hand can easily do this. But old habits -- left hand focus, right hand pushing left on the shutter lever -- die hard.

Found these on ebay, I wonder if they fit a rolleicord. I don't know much about large format releases, but if the thread is the same as on the rolleicord, seems as if it might work. Does seem a tad long at about 2 inches though;

I have never seen one of these shutter releases -- in fact, I didn't know they existed until now! But I find the shutter lever on the Rolleicords actually very easy to use without inducing any camera shake.

Seems many don't alright, lol, I only found out about them a few months ago, after owning my rolleicord for a few years. Re: camera shake, perhaps have great technique, if you care for sharing it, started a recent thread here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/foru...d.php?t=123212. Myself, tripping the shutter with that lever, I never feel I can release it while keeping the rolleicord rock solid, like I can with my 35mm cameras for example.
