Zeiss Contax Forum for the classic Zeiss Contax I, II, III, IIa, IIIa , G series, and if you want to push it, the nice Contax point and shoots. Some spill over from the Kievs, the Soviet copy of the Contax II/III can also be expected. Plus the ONLY production camera ever made in classic Zeiss Contax Rangefinder mount WITH TTL metering ... the Voigtlander Bessa R2C.

Impossible Contax IV still awaited ...

In 2010 , I had a rough Contax III restored by the Arsenal techs in Ukraine .
They did a fine job , but needed another scrap Contax III for meter mechanism spares .

Autism makes cyrillic script [ and Wales ] impossible , so being able to find Contax camera really cheaply was great .

The pre-war Contax is THE CAMERA which hands and eyes combine to make ' real ' in a dee'sjointed world . This is rare for me . I am wondering if the high cost o repair and service combined with the economic climate has made rough Contax II/III cameras less desirable . I paid no more than £40 for my donors .

It's not about originality , it's having my favourite camera in a form which calms my dee'sorientation LOL
Being dee'slocated myself , I actually prefer my bitsas 'cos they do not have history to be cared for .

They also made my Avatar Kontax II from a box of parts , literally , non matching body and back , and Kiev shutter . It's great .

The final cameras fully paid for was , for various reasons , were never returned.

A Contax II which was in a sorry state which now it seems is working sweetly and is mechanically original other than screws and springs etc .
Inspired by the cream and tan Contax , it is polished slightly rough silver metal which relates to the very brassed chrome with new tan leather . It was to be a working rat , but the leather was too shot to be re-used and new would look wrong .

The other is a combination of my favourite Contax type experience - with meter and excellent controls copied visually , from the post war Contax . But the script and body style jar , so the remaining Contax III body has been grafted onto an early and rare 1958 Kiev 4 top plate with a non ridged meter cover when Kiev 4 quality was not compromised by quantity over quality .

In no way would I be interested in a late Kiev 4 with patently fake face plate as they share all of the problems of poor quality and reliability .

These , hopefully , will shortly be with me , completing my ' set ' of Contax style profiles .

Naturally , purists will be dismissive of this approach , but boxes of Contax spares are useless to me , in this way , 4 dead and dismantled Contax cameras will now be useable . Never would I either ; part with these cameras , nor try and pass them off as other than ' Kontaxes ' - Germany via Ukraine LOL .

So are you saying that Arsenal in the Ukraine stole your pre-war Contax?

The agent in Ukraine just did not return my three cameras .
The ex Arsenal guys did a great job on them - and my bitsa Contax/Kiev II .
I am putting it down to personal problems , 'cos I have crazy issues too .
