Issue of lens/body compatibility
I posted this in another thread, but it might deserve its own -
"Ya know, compatibility might be a "real" issue, even though it is not supposed to be. I have been using the Panasonic 14/2.5 on my OMD for awhile now, and it seems that in the last week the number of AF "misses" have increased. At first I thought it was my imagination, but it is starting to be a real issue. The camera does sometimes seem, well, a little hesitant or sluggish. I was reading somewhere recently, and damn if I can remember where, that there is a real issue developing between the compatibility of Panasonic lenses on Olympus bodies, and vice-versa. The best results obtained with using the same lenses and bodies from the same manufacturer. Using one manufacturers lenses on another's body, if the firmware is not updated and corrected, can cause problems. I know that Panasonic does update their firmware for lenses periodically, but Olympus? I'm not sure. I am not blaming anyone, but if there is supposed to be a sharing of compatibility, Panasonic and Olympus have to share in this responsibility and step up to the plate. I am just sort of worried with the jump in IQ and technology with the OMD, Olympus might not care anymore if Panasonic lenses don't function up to their potential on their bodies."

I emailed Olympus USA earlier today about some issues I have been experiencing with my OMD and Panasonic 14/2.5 Aspherical. Here is there reply so far -
"Thank you for your interest in Olympus Imaging America Inc. Your inquiry has
been received and an answer will be provided for you shortly."
I await to hear what they have to say.
Has anyone else been experiencing problems with their Panasonic 14mm and OMD or any other Panasonic lenses besides the 20?

I am about to find out, as I placed an order on the 14/2.5 a couple of days ago. The 20/1.7 needs to wait until Olympus/Panasonic get the problems solved.

I'll be curious for your experience. Seemed to work great at first, but combination is now producing out of focus images.
Do let us know Lasse.

I'm following this thread with interest b/c I'd like to get an OMD, and already have the Pany 14 and 20 lenses. I have to say that I've had no problems using those lenses on my E-PL1, so I wonder whether the compatibility issue is particular to the OMD w/ its improved and faster autofocus.

Just received a reply from Olympus -
"Mount the 14mm and run the My Reset function in the camera's menu.
Regards,
Digital Technical Support
Olympus Imaging America"
Just did a full reset and will see how camera and lens combo responds later today. I'll let you all know.

Has anyone tried the "Basic" reset? Does it reset the Fn buttons also?

I did the full reset. Seemed to solve the problem. I guess I should ask if this is something one has to do every so often, unless Olympus offers a firmware fix.

Make sure the lens contacts are clean too. Since mirrorless (at least 4/3) has to use CDAF rather than PDAF there should be fewer opportunities for things to go wrong with the focusing

I have now had the 14/2.5 for a couple of days. It seems to work fine on the OM-D, although I have not used it much yet. Next two to three weeks of use should show the compatibility problems if there are any.

Keith;
Thanks for posting and making us all aware. I'm waiting on delivery of my OMD (some time next week) and since I already own the 20 and 14, I read your post with interest
Thanks again
Paul
