pinhole concept - applied to eyeglasses

This reminds me of the whale bone glasses Native Alaskans would wear for snow glare.I think bigger holes were used though.

My brother had something like those glasses over 35 years ago...they had something to do with helping his vision...he was born with 20/400 vision... back in the early 70's they were experimenting with all sorts of things...you should have seen his first pair of contacts...by today's standards they would be considered a form a torture...
When I read the thread title I had a pretty good idea what you might be talking about...
They were probably thinking the pinholes would sharpen his vision...

I seem to recall they are very small holes and become like a very small lens aperture that makes it easier for the eye to resolve the light being sent to it, because like a small aperture, it increases the DoF.

I recall once seeing a gentleman using something similar to read with at a place I worked. But I never heard of it being used by anyone of normal vision to "relax" the eyes.

From my own limited experiences, walking around the Stanford campus with them, I can put them on and read signs at distances I can't without (I am slightly mypopic - far sighted).

But they're not practical for driving, they block too much. They are fine for walking around a park or campus though.
