Ray, the area is teeming with photographers all the time. Large Format should fit in great, as long as sidewalks and such are not impeded, the local LEO have no problems with photographers.

Remember that this is the home of Savannah College of Art and Design where there are many pursuing BFAs and MFAs in photography.

Thanks Dave -- I lived in Savannah for two years (did my MFA at SCAD), and enjoyed my time there. Actually learned a lot too -- coming from very cosmopolitan and diverse Toronto to not-so-cosmopolitan-and-not-so-diverse Savannah was a bit of an eye-opener, and sometimes in not so good ways (this was from '94-'96). I lived in the 'Southside' of Savannah (near Armstrong State), which is sometimes disdainfully referred to as 'North Jacksonville', and experienced a different side of Savannah than what the tourists normally see down on River Street. Can't say that I'd want to live in Savannah again, but I did like the state of Georgia overall.
One more.....Miss Savannah pays a visit.

Caution:
One can spend days and weeks photographing Savannah without even including people:

Did you go to the Crab Shack near Tybee? Where the elite eat in their bare feet!

Funny you mention the Crab Shack...we were just thinking about eating there when we head down after school is back in. Too busy last few times we were in Savannah but this next trip should be memorable.
Another image from Savannah...

Any help would be greatly appreciated! The images are scans from prints I've made in the darkroom. I'm not sure how to post images from my hard drive.
Thanks!

Bob,
Just picked up the book you recommended (Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil). The local library has them and just got through the first two chapters.
This is gonna be a great book!
Thanks for that!

Dave,
Look for any of Jack Leigh's books, he was a local photographer who worked exclusively in black and white and his images are tremendous.

For those like me who have never read "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"....
here is an old but darned accurate review of the movie by Roger Ebert:

Like Bob Michaels, I highly recommend this book. Non-fiction, too.
