French photog. visits the United States

Hello everyone !

I am planning on visiting the United States for the very first time this summer. However, I don't want to stay in NY or huge cities...
Still I want to make photographs and exchange with photographers.

Therefore there's my unusual request :

I am looking for a photographer who would be interested on exchanging on photography (and more), who would host me for whatever amount he'd see fit, and who would own a darkroom (that can be optional, but I'd need to process films, and in this case bring my pattersons).

The idea is basically to make photographs, process it and discuss the work. This would work bothways. There's nothing I value more than teamwork, sharing, discussions.

What do you think of this ?

Peace, from Paris

Larry

I think the east coast and the south because I only have six weeks to travel and my arrival and deparrtue are in Montreal.
California, Colorado and Oregon were top on my list but I also have to visit friends in Montreal, NYC and Charleston (SC). A friend of mine told me it would be to much to travel to the west coast (unless flying the plane but that would cost me too much I think)

Something quite important...

Date of arrival : 07.18.12
Date of departure 08.28.12

When you plan, be sure to check out Southwest Airlines inside the US as a very economical way to travel. Not as cheap as say Ryan Air, but then you're spending Euros so...

Thank your for the website and the piece of advice. It's actually cheap !
But I think my "plane tickets" budget is already pretty high (1000 usd for Paris Montreal and then 150 usd for the bus taking me back and forth to New York).

I'd rather spend the rest on food, museums and wine

I've done a small tour last year, Toronto, Boston, NYC, San Francisco in 3 weeks. Like was pointed out, you can take a flight pretty cheap across the US, make sure you do NOT fly between Canada and the US though, that will cost you a lot.
For California keep in mind you will need to rent a car, it's a lot bigger and not as well served by public transport as say NYC for example

Thanks Lauffray. That'd be great to meet you in Montreal ! I have lived there before and it's my favourite city in the world (with Florence).
I'm thinking more and more about going deeper in the countryside of Québec, towards north.
So far :

Montreal (mostly for partying with my friends)
NYC (same here )
Charleston and other cities in South Carolina.

I'd rather take my time and "live" in these cities for a week, two weeks, than just stay a couple days and move on.
