OM-D E-M5 availability in the USA???????

Anyone heard anything on tight supply of this camera? I ordered a black body from B&H on May 4 and it's still on back order. They've received no updates from Oly and most internet seller have none either except may in a kit form with a lens. I checked with Oly USA and they said if I buy from them, I can get in about 2 weeks but no guarantees. Just wondering if it's a production issue or very high demand. Frustratingn that there's no info out there. I don't mind waiting if I had an idea when to expect delivery. There as some new ones on Ebay from the Orient but with a hefty mark-up.

I had a silver body on backorder with B&H for nearly 2 months now. Yesterday I walked into my local camera shop and they had a silver 12-50 kit instock so I bought it and canceled with B&H. Great camera!

Checked Amazon, black bodies have been listed as temporarily out of stock or 1-3 month delivery in some ads. Maybe I'm missing something here.

I have the silver body, which seems pretty hard to get here in germany. Found it in a local store, just hour after the shop-owner placed in into the window and bought it instantly. The black body though is no problem to get.

While I like B&H, and generally order my stuff through them, they've been real slow on this one. I preordered my EM-5 in mid-February, and only just received it yesterday. So if you ordered in May, God knows when you might get yours--September?

I asked a local camera stop here on when will they get OM-D in stock.

Without even pausing, the guys said: "I'm not stocking those."

What a ... (fill in your own favorite baffled expression here).

Nothing to do with the US market of course but I rang around Brisbane until I found a shop that had one in stock. They did only have the one though but to their credit they did also have a demo model that I was able to try before deciding.

I made a big mistake today and handled one at a Camerahouse store in NSW, Australia. Big, big mistake.

There was no lens on it, so once I explained to the sales person that she could use the lens off one of the Pens on display (yes, clueless!), I got to see a little bit of why everyone is so impressed. Inside the shop it was focusing VERY fast. I doubt whether my 7D would be any better. The one press focus and shoot from the rear screen is quite amazing.

The big test for me was the EVF. It was different but certainly sharp, clear and very usable.

My 'excuse' for purchase will be the weather sealing which comes in handy in my occupation. I do hope that they release some fast water primes soon.

One question for you Keith. Is it possible to accurately focus a legacy lens through the EVF without magnification?

Cheers - John

I ordered my black body only from B&H in mid March and got it with their first batch a number of weeks ago. Supply is definitely slow for this camera. I don't think it has anything to do with B&H or any large retailer, Olympus simply isn't producing and supplying them fast enough.

At the shop I work at we sold our first shipment out over that weekend, and pretty much all of the cameras that have been trickling in have already been spoken for.
They aren't coming in nearly fast enough to meet demand.

Hi John,

I haven't tried and don't really intend using legacy glass on mine ... but I can't see why not. The EVF has diopter adjustment and seems very sharp to me.

See this thread.

Depends on the aperture and your eyes. When I was shooting with the camera, I assigned one of the function buttons to activate the 2x digital crop. Frame, press, focus, press, shoot--if you opt for Raw+JPG shooting you can frame, press, focus, shoot--the JPG will be cropped, but the Raw will be the full field of view.

Exactly.
And they stock Minolta Alpha.

One thing I don't get is why would they choose to doggedly compete with other local stores (and online) in Canon/Nikon market which already have razor-thin margin. While at the same time dismiss the whole potential new market with new cameras like OM-D or Fuji X-whatever.

I guess the art of creating new excitement is a lost art in brick and mortar shops nowadays.

See this thread.

Keith, if you have the Oly 300mm, it works great with the E-M5 (as well as quite a few others!).

You preferred this over the Zoom function (5x,7x,10x,14x)?
