Roger Hicks -- Author of The Rangefinder Book

Roger Hicks is a well known photographic writer, author of The Rangefinder Book, over three dozen other photographic books, and a frequent contributor to Shutterbug and Amateur Photographer. Unusually in today's photographic world, most of his camera reviews are film cameras, especially rangefinders. See www.rogerandfrances.com for further background (Frances is his wife Frances Schultz, acknowledged darkroom addict and fellow Shutterbug contributor) .

The Final Frame?

Hello Rodger. I look forward to your Final Frame column at the AP web page, but they changed the site layout and I can't find your column anymore. There is no link to it. Is it hidden someplace? I hope you can help.

Cheers.

Use the AP search for 'Roger Hicks' and you'll find it. Sorry for the delay but I've been busy.

Why is it that 'upgrades' of websites are almost invariably downgrades? Why not write and ask 'em why it's so hard to find?

Try http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk...+Hicks&commit=

Cheers,

R.

If I might be so bold as to hijack the thread -- I'm glad to know Roger's pieces are available online, but what about Ivor Matanle's reviews of classic cameras? I assume he's still writing those, but I don't see them at the website. The paper magazine has not been available in my area for a long time; I miss it. If someone can point me to a source for Ivor's articles I'd really appreciate it.

I did write to ask why and I just got the reply.
They say the column wasn't getting enough hits, so it's been axed.
Strange they didn't mention this to you. It's a pity because I cannot get the paper version where I live.

Good luck.

If more here knew of Rodger's column I'm sure there would be plenty of hits.

I enjoy Rodger's writing.

Sounds like the 'party' line. Putting the best bits of a magazine on the web for free must result in lost sales. AP must have a huge archive, I wonder if it were possible to put some of this online, giving access to subscribers. The Economist operates such a system.

Have you tried Zinio reader? I get AP for about a dollar an issue instead of hundreds extra to deliver to Europe. On a computer Zinio is a pain, but on a tabet it works very well.

Absolutely!!

I didn't know of the AP source. Glad I now do.

I might add I have certainly been missing Roger's and Frances' columns in Shutterbug as well. What's up with that Mr. Hicks? They don't like your styles?

Well, we don't do software reviews...

But there are reviews of Ilford Art 300 and the Titan Pinhole camera coming up, along with a Classic and Collector piece oon the NPC 195.

Cheers,

R.
