Cool Verification: 35mm Summicron, v.1 on M2

Logic tells me that the 35mm Summicron with finder will work on the M2 by "correcting" the 50mm framelines to the 35mm field of view.
Yes or No?
I ask because I just ran across a listing for the above camera & lens. The seller says the lens works on the M2.

Yes it will work. You will see the 35mm field of view in the 50mm frame lines of your M2. As a result, finder "magnification" will be reduced, but the lens will focus correctly.

It should work fine on your M2 - it should bring up the 35mm framelines in the finder.

There is a "spectacled" version for the M3 (which doesn't have 35mm framelines) which corrects the 50mm lines, but your camera doesn't need the spectacled version

Just to clarify, two versions of V1 exist, one with specs, one without.

Correct. You want the non-goggled lens. 35mm is THE lens for the M2.

Disclaimer: Not my stuff.

I just wanted to make sure that the seller's listing was correct. OK, so call me the For Sale Nanny Police.
What is listed is the finder (eyes, spectacles) equipped first version 35mm f/2.0 Summicron and in a seperate listing, a user/beater M2. And an early 28mm Elmarit.

Goggled version of any Leica 35 works perfectly on the M2, no "correction" whatsoever is needed, the 50mm framelines appear automatically.

One advantage over the view on the M3: On .72x finders goggle viewfinder distorts the view less, "stretches" toward edges less. My goggled v.1 Summicron and 2.8 Summarons perform fine on M2 and M4 too. (Try it side by side.. )

Just to be contrary, I use a non-goggled v1 on an M3.

If you can get them both at a sensible price, go for it. V1 is the master of shadow detail.

I have a version 1 goggled summicron that I use both on my M3 and a M4-p. Now that I wear glasses I think I might prefer it on the M4-p as there is more eye relief around the 50mm frame lines in the .72 viewfinder. The goggles essentially change the .72 viewfinder to give you view similar to what you would be getting with a .58 viewfinder without the added cost of a much more expensive camera. Some people might tell you that the goggled version is dimmer, makes the camera too heavy etc. etc. and is just not as good but I feel this mostly idle chatter by people that have never owned this lens and I honestly can't tell the difference when I put this lens on my camera. I have owned my copy for twenty years and couldn't be happier. (I would sell all my cameras before selling this lens, and I confess I bought the lens before I even owned a Leica.... thus starting a ride on one slippery slope) I am one of those people that have been seduced by the look and feel of Leica cameras and for me they look even better with one of these lenses attached.

Ok.
Bottom Line: The seller is correct to say that the finder/eyes/spectacles equipped v.1 35mm Summicron f/2.0 lens works on the M2, also for sale.
Too rich for my blood. I'll pass.
Thank you!

I bought mine for the same reason. With glasses I only need to see the 50 mm frame lines.

I had an M3 with goggled Summilux, and all other possible issues aside (I thought it worked fine, myself), I loved it because it was just SO sexy looking.
