40 to 40.5 Adapter

A while ago I posted a 'HU' about the 40mm to 40.5mm adapter available from Heavstar. Mine just arrived along with a w/a hood to fit 40.5mm. The adapter fits my Canon 35/1.8 perfectly, if a bit tight (but my lens is a beater). The hood screws right into the adapter and looks good on the lens. It may vignette slightly-I'll need to shoot some film to tell for sure.

I used your "tip" and bought one too. It enabled me to use all of my old Series VI filters including my 40.5 to Ser. VI adapter. Also it allowed me to use a an existing 40.5 metal lens cap.

Hi guys! I have such "S+W" adapter from heavystar and mine is not completely screws on canon 35/2, so there is a 1 mm space between lens and adapter frame. As a result I clearly see vignetting with FSU 40.5mm filters.
What about yours? Thinking that my sample is faulty. The lens i ok because it perfectly takes original 40mm canon filters.

If it does not screw in all the way I suspect the rim of the lens may have been bumped. I have a 50mm f2 Nikkor that was that way. The bend was so slight I could not see it and only found it when I used a micrometer to measure around the outside and found a bend of only a few thousandths of an inch. Perhaps that is causing these troubles. Good Luck, Joe

Thank you for your suggestion! But I have 2 40mm filters and they perfectly fits my lens. I don't see any bumps on lens rim. These adapters are cheap and I suppose not precise as they should be.

I've been using 40-43mm step up rings w/ my Canon lenses. The 43mm filter/hood size is pretty easy to find. I did experience some vignetting w/ a hood on my 35/1.8, but the front element on that lens is recessed enough that a hood is not really necessary.

I used the adapter on my 50/1.5. It can't screw in all the way. It's quite tight and leave a space.

But on my lens, the space is narrow than what's shown in your pic.

Any feedback on using 40.5 filters (normal, not slim) with 35mm and this adapter will be appreciated.

I've got an Ednalite 617 adapter so I can use my Series VI filters. No gap on the adapter, and so far no vignetting with the Ednalite Series VI hood either. And a 55mm snap cap fits the hood nicely.

Heavystar confirmed that all 40-40.5 they have are not fully screw in. He said that "thread pitch doesn't exactly match with 0.5 pitch on canon lens". But I think it's just because of lacking full thread on adapters.
So this stuff is useless with 35mm lenses, they need 40-43 to eliminate vignetting with hoods/filters. Maybe 40-40.5 is ok for 50mm. Take it into consideration.
Recently I won BEL-VIEW filter set for canon, hope it will work well with 35mm.
