And in a perfect world you'd happily own twenty grands worth of cameras in two M's and two X's.
I'm sure Leica will love you when you win the lottery!

Depends...if I won the really big lottery, I would buy all of Leica myself!!!
But there is no perfect world. No perfect bag. No .....well, you get my drift... The sure sign of doom is for me to get a lottery ticket and I can guarantee you there would be a 0% chance of any of the numbers being on the winning ticket!
But I have a friend who was struck by lightning and when I found out after a year or so, I stopped riding motorcycles with him, around him, within the same State.... and today, he still has a cloud over his head following him around. So, we just talk by phone!

"Working professional photographers" certainly earned a lot more in the old days. It was never a lucrative career but with royalties and prints sales, a lot of them fared really well compare to the average working population.

the M9M just makes no sense !
buy an M8, M9 or a Nex-7, add Nik Silver Efex, and with the cash saved get a few decent heritage lenses

I ordered one as soon as Leica announced it. For 30 years I carried at least two Leica M's, one with color film and one with B&W. I switched to digital several years ago and cannot go back to film. I would love to be able to carry one Leica B&W and one Leica color digital camera. I'm looking forward to greater dynamic range, more resolution and higher ISOs than I get with my M9.

I see a problem with polls like this. Narrowing down who you want to respond may make for a more interesting result. I ask, because not all here are part of the parish. My answering the poll would only interfere with the results, as I wouldn't be in the market for an M8, M9 or any version of either.

IMO surely there will be some people who will continue to patronize Leica no matter how crazy the prices will be, I'm definitely not one.

I plan on buying one with the very next $10,000 that I get AND for which I have no other need. That may take some time.

You might be talking about the M9M-2. That will be $12,000.00.

I would love one but, like many, find the cost to be prohibitive. The idea of a M9 makes more sense to me with the decreasing amount of choices as far as color stock goes. Tri-X is still around and probably will be for a good while, I don't think a digital Leica is going to beat a film Leica with Tri-X (or Acros, or whatever emulsion you prefer). Color, however, can be trumped with digital.
If I had tons of disposable income I'd have a M9 and M9M, after getting the 21mm Summilux, unfortunately those are all out of my reach. Fortunately for Leica I'm not part of the market to which they cater. In my opinion Leica was once expensive because it was great, now it feels like Leica is great because it's expensive. It's less a working photographer's tool than a luxury item to denote wealth. Not putting any value judgements on that, it's just clear where I fall out of those two categories.
Maybe once I become a DP I'll get a M12.

i made a crazy promise: in order to buy the mm, i have to do 2 things:
a. finish up my 1 year's worth of film reserve
b. no more purchases of gear in the mean time ....
so... i am shooting a roll a day... sometimes 2 rolls

best comment ever.
i guess at around 8% of the vote, that's probably what Leica is expecting in sales anyway - 8% of the rf market perhaps? not sure the % taken away from regular M9 or percentage of people jumping from film to digital.

Way out of my price range, if I had that much extra cash I would get me a nice used car. And if any money left I would stock up on film.

I do not think so however the following one can be considerable to maintain the dynamic range (and there is also Hermes version of it..):
