Citroen C6

Here's a shot of my car outside some gates where I was intercepted by a man on a lawnmower... I had to raise the suspension to make good my getaway and it was quite a thrilling, albeit slow, race.

Thanks for the comments. I hope it becomes a 'classic' like the GS and the CX - maybe one day it will. It's certainly very rare here in the UK.

Lovely shot of the GS, I always liked the dash in those.

Wonderful shot and car. Want one for sure; unfortunately there is a 180% sales tax on cars here in Denmark, leaving the C6 with a price tag of app. 100.000£. Have only seen one live specimen in our town of 250.000 people, and Citroën is very popular in Denmark.

Elmer3.5 - you make me nostalgic, once had a GS 1220 - Norwegian model with a seat back that could be lowered leaving room for a pair of skis (not that you have much use for that in Denmark, but it did give you a larger trunk).

Driving a car with hydropneumatic suspension can have on of two results: Either you'll never want to do it again, or you are hooked (I am one my 4th Citroën now, Xantia station wagon - guess I am hooked

Yes it's quite unusual. I'm well used to it now (previously had a Xantia) and I really do appreciate the difference when I drive anything else.

On top of that the car looks fantastic, it's a real head turner for people who like cars and it slips under the radar of people who aren't fussed. This is quite an unusual thing; lots of hard turning cars are very flashy and shout rather than quietly wisper their appeal.

My favourite view of the car is from the rear quarter, I love the look of the back. It's low and wide and looks pretty fierce at night with the vertical lights. I wasn't able to get a shot of it yesterday though because lawnmower man opened the gate and generally wanted me to shift myself from the entrance to the grounds (grounds to what, I don't know!)

I'll see if I can get some shots of that but there are more in my flickr set on the C6 though perhaps not in such a nice location as this shot.

Wonderful shots. Never thought I would read discussion about GS Citroëns on RFF though! Before I became interested in photography I was interested in Citroëns. I ran an early GS1220 as an everyday driver for years, then a real early 1015 (both Breaks), and followed that with a DS23 injection electronique Pallas. Since the marque joined forces with Peugeot, their cars have had their high and low points, but the C6 strikes me as the first "real" big Citroën since the CX (had one of those too, for a while). If money were no object, it's the modern Citroën I would own.

Thanks for the info Brett I would love a DS. I was amazed at the response to my recent thread about a visit to a Citroen specialist where I drove an SM recently http://www.rangefinderforum.com/foru...d.php?t=117006 I think RFFers are closet Citroen fans - perhaps that's because they're the motoring equivalent of using a rangefinder?

It's a lovely image of a wonderful car! I always thought of Citroen owners as unique individuals who defied the marketing prowess of the German marques. Apparently Top Gear reviewers think highly of the Citroens as well, especially of the unique suspension. Enjoy your car!

What you say does ring true. I've never driven an SM (there is only one in Tasmania) but have been a passenger in it. WOW! What a car. Rouge Grenada 2.7 litre five speed with Bosch EFI. Came away with the over riding impression it was a well-suspended two door DS, that went like the clappers.

I drove a C6 press car once. It seemed so big and yet really not much longer than a D.

Quite fearless on roundabouts when pushed and interesting to see that the spoiler didn't deploy within UK legal speed limits!

Wonderful stuff and very reasonable now...

I will never forget seeing the C6 for the first time, parked near the opposite corner of a street in Paris where I was having lunch. I nearly fell off my chair. It is such a stunning car. I agree with you about the rear view. Travelling behind one sets one thinking about design and French cathedrals. That concave rear window and those gothic tail lights are quite wonderful. Two colleagues where I work have always had Citroens and now both have the C6. I have the current C5. Diesel with hydropneumatic suspension is a perfect and effortless combination. Today I have done a trip to central Victoria with my wife to watch my son rowing. The round trip of 260km was so easy. C6's are coming up second hand now and then in Australia. And at reasonable prices for so much car. I definitely want to have one for a while.

Funny to see strangers liking the Citroen brand. They have here in France a mixed reputation, for a long time. Since the 80s, it was an "old man's car", ugly, prone to break downs (the BX and the first C5, hum). It has changed since Sebastien Loeb won some WRC, and the current Citroens have some nice design.

But of course, the Traction Avant, the DS and the 2cv are icons.

DS23 EFI BVH Pallas

I had the five speed equivalent of that for many years. Stupid Australian Design Rules meant that, by 1974, the BVH transmission was classed as an "automatic" and not sold in Australia due to the absence of a "Park" position on the transmission gate. Ridiculous, but true. There are a few 21 BVH Pallas kicking around, and apparently we scored quite a few of the Borg Warner DS23 Pallas Automatique models in either carburettor or D Jetronic.

I'd recognise that EFI intake manifold anywhere; it's unmistakeable.
