huntjump: it's all true. Bhutan is trying to avoid the problem of nepal, which has a lot of uncontrolled tourism dollars not flowing back to building the basic infrastructure of the country. the place is very beautiful and unspoilt.

some monastery built in the 1500's

ps. of course, being a business traveller, I am exempted from the tourism tax

cool shots, Markus! welcome to RFF and here's hoping you have a great time with the R-D1, it's really a gem.

got my r-d1 yesterday, tried it for the first time today. will take some getting used to but it's a great camera. not so fond of the Voigtländer 35mm f/1.4 Nokton Classic S.C so far though..

two of the shots here, hope it works..

Am I exploiting her by taking a picture of her and her kid even though i gave a small donation ?
Or
Am I being exploited because they are likely to be controlled by a syndicate ?

I have an RD1s and have posted several pics on this thread in the past: and I have been "away" from RFF for the last several months due to life, but I find it so refreshing and inspiring to see new owners/users of the RD1s with such great results. This is a 6 MP champ that I have always admired, and continues to be a legit digital camera despite technological advancements in digital photography.

Hillary, I really love the first two pics above: the BW has a subtle glow to it in the background, and you captured the man's expression perfectly. The second pic also has a really nice color tone/resolution: the detail/resolution in the foreground with the softer color tones and bokeh in the background. i used to have a Zeiss 28/2.8 that I used on the RD1s, with very good color results, and that is what your color pic reminds me of. I would be curious what glass you used in the first two shots and if you did any PP?

hey, well, i just find it to be very soft, but like i wrote i've only had the camera for two days so it's really to early for me to just write it off as a bad lens. I have to try it a bit more and see what it looks like after shooting more with it. I think I also need to verify that the rangefinder is properly calibrated so that it's not an issue with misfocus. And lastly I need to practice RF focusing. So, right now I'm not a huge fan of the output from the lens, but I cannot say for sure if it is me or if it is the lens. There's too many variables right now

kenny: one exercise i do for all my lens is to test the focusing:

a. 1 to Infinity and Infinity to 1 testing.
b. a Slight Left, Centre, and Sligh Right focus.

all at the widest aperture, which in this case is f1.4.

I then compare the images. For my R-D1 and CV 35/f1.4,
the focus is better from 1m to Subject than say starting from Infinity to
the subject.

I am sure your mileage may vary.

Hi Gary I believe I used a Jupiter 8 50/2 for those two photos.. I shoot raw and then use lightroom for the initial PP and then photoshop to touch up the contrast a bit. The Jupiter tends to have considerably lower contrast than my CV 40/1.4(used for the last photo from that post) and it also flares quite a bit.. but the flaring makes for nice glowing backgrounds and bokeh glad to know I'm on the right track!

Marley @ 9 weeks shot with Summar @ 75 years. Wide open, I think. None of my 'legacy lenses' do well wide open on my RD-1 but I kind of prefer it that way on the Summar. I don't even bother looking for the plane of focus. I love this lens!
